TD5 Roof loose
Hello All,
2003 Td5 Defender with 175,000 on it, and now a loose roof!
Looks like the self tappers that hold the A pillar to the roof have come loose, as I now get a rather loud rattle from the roof over any bumps in the road, and you can feel it move quite a bit. I've done a bit of searching - and looks like this is quite common - luckily the spot welds have not pulled through on mine yet. (I've never had a roof rack.)
It looks like a not to bad job of pulling the head lining and fixing the loose bolts but alas, no time to do it. So rather than risk cracking the roof - it's booked in to be looked at.
What fixes have you done to your loose roof! Is it just a matter of loctiting the offending self tappers? or perhaps replacing with proper bolts?
Coincdentally the clutch has just started juddering, and the idle has become rough. Looks like the money I saved on getting the PUMA fixed under warranty is about to be spent on reinforcing the roof, a new clutch and flywheel and perhaps a new wiring loom on the TD5... Damn.

Try small allen screws with nylock nuts, that should sort it.
