    DP Chip

Has anyone fitted one of these DP chips to a Puma as yet? If so is all the promo true. On the web site they are claiming 107kw and 410nm of torque. I also would be interested if it would void any warranty claim and if DP Chip would then repair any damage LR may say was caused by this mod.

I cant comment on the Puma, but I have one installed in My 05 Prado and my goodness is it a change!!! The 05 is an old style motor but with electronic pump, slow and under powered to say the least,( not a comon rail) and the power and torque increases are huge, down side is that under hard accelleration copious quantities of black smoke (over fueling I believe) but for the performance its worth it. I think the performace of the Puma should be similar or better than the D4D 3.0 l toyota chpped motor.
I did disconnect it each time it went for a dealer service though as I did not want any warranty issues with Toyota. Acording to DP or Tunit they are undetectable once diconnected because they are active after the OE computers.

I would do it again if my Fender had electronics alas 300TDI all mechnical.
    Cheers

While I have to acknowlodge that their product is good I personally dont reccomend it.

Where there is no alternative (non flashable/re mapable ECUs)you have no choice but where your map can be changed internally on the ECU then thats the better option.

in answer to the warrenty question.

yes re-powering the engine via chip or remap that is not installed by the dealer under warrenty as part of a solution to another problem voids both your engine and your driveline warrenty IF they find it.

I'm not sure the above is 100% accurate but on a practical level it's good advice.

A manufacturer can only void the warranty if the modification you have done is a cause (or part possibly) of the warranty problem.

The problem is that the onus will be on you to prove that your modification didn’t cause the problem. Can be real difficult because the manufacturer will have experts available to argue their case.

Also while you’re arguing your unit is either off the road or you’ve paid for the repairs.
