Soon after picking up my defender I had a couple of anchor points fitted for attached the kids seats to. This was done by a crowd in Ferntree Gully.
I believe because of the new middle seat design in the pumas you don't need a crab bar etc and these guys were happy fitting anchors as shown and provide eng certificate
As seen in the photos below, it's not a hard job and if you don't need the engineers certificate and were confident then you could have a go yourself. (I reckon it would be less than $15 each point
as opposed to over $80 each at the shop
)
I had 2 points fitted, one behind the drivers side middle seat and one behind the centre middle seat. (I'll do the LHS anchor point myself later)
The drivers side anchor was just drilled through into the wheel arch and appears to be standard anchor beefed up with a 50mm diameter washer on the outside.

The centre anchor goes through the floor and is reinforced on the underside with a steel sleeve that fits over a existing channel underneath.

To DIY this is obviously a person decisionand you may be better off getting a pro to do it! - they were a friendly enough bunch of guys!

they are also accepted on the other deefers BUT.....
they are supposed to have a 50x50x3mm square steel plate with radiused corners fitted to stop pulling though. (refer to the ADR's And mod regs for seating and aftermarket seat belt fitings)
I personally prefer the tower setup based on the peace of mind I get knowing that If I accidentaly knock a toolbox or something onto the tower it wont get frayed.

I got two points in mine on the out side seats but they said they could not do the centre seat. Buggers.
Benders are alot higher then mine they pretty much used the the tie down piont you can just see it in benders first picture, and put one of those seat points on instead of the loop.
Might have to install one myself...

Hi all,
On the hunt for a 4WD (Deefer or Disco 3)to fit the family and equipment for when we go camping or away. And with soon to be three kids seats in action I was wondering if anyone has fitted 3 across the second row in a Deefer. I understand that I would need to fit a CRAB bar or similar for anchorage points. Does anyone have any measurements of how wide the second row seat is so I can compare with our current chariot. I understand that the width of child booster seats vary, so I need to take that into account also.
Does anyone have any ideas suggestions ?

I have a crab bar in my 2010 defender, robs a bit of space in the boot but you will definitely fit 3 kids seats across there.some models are very wide at the top but there are plenty of Models which will fit easily.
Thanks Lennie, do you have the info on who installed it? I'm getting quotes and suggestions from other threads that it can vary from $200-&2000 with certificate

However when I checked early last year - the one engineer who was doing this had left and they no longer did this type of work - they also no longer deal with the general public.
If you look at the VACC list of authorised fitting stations for child restraint points, there is a workshop in Belgrave listed. They were happy to fit the points to mine for $200 (Last years price). They are an authorised fittign station, and I don't think required a certificate at that time. I've previously had other defenders done in the same way and was happy with that.
