    255/85/16 and diff gears

If I was to run BFG Muds in 255/85/16 on a Defender 110 Td5 what ring and pinions are available to bring my gearing back to stock? Vehicle is a 2001 so has salsbury rear end

    Thanks

Why would you want to? I have 255/85s and it's much more relaxed cruising and the speedo is now spot on. No adverse effects that I have noticed.

unfortunatly the easy changes to the transfer box ratio changes are all up for the defender*.. its only a 4% change (IIRC) and will improve everything but towing uphills out of boost.

*Disco (1.2:1) and RR (1.003:1) will make the gearing taller..
    Hercules: 1986 110 Isuzu 3.9 (4BD1-T)
Brutus: 1969 109 ExMil 2a FFT (loved and lost)

255/85's have corrected my speedo to within 2km of being accurate. The downside is the gearing in 1st low is a little taller. I guess I'll just put up with that

So your saying with a 33.5" dia tyre your speedo is accurate and your first low range is not affected to any noticable degree. I will be doing a lot of towing a 1 tonne boat from the Gold Coast north as far as Cook Town and was concerned about the performance on hills.

According to the Kouki tech tyre size calculator (on the net) 255/85 16 are the same rolling size as 265/75 16. The 265/65 have only changed my speedo reading a couple of kays according to the gps. I dont know how correct the speedo was in the first place though. Check with the siteI ve mentioned above I have always found it a great help

    265 75 16's have a rolling diamater of about 31.7"

    Miles smaller than a 255 85 16 which is 33.1"

    (285 75 16 have a rolling dia of about 32.8)

IMO the gearing will be absoloutely fine. The speedo will be almost dead on and the gearing increase in 1st low wont be that noticeable
