    Another question that I thought of. How many old clunkers with high emissions do new immigrants keep on the road when they should be scrapped?

    Interesting thought. You might be surprised.. some students particularly from Asia are very wealthy. They aren't really here for a degree, but they have to "study" to get the residency. It's pretty whacked. If you cruise around the nice uni's you will see lots of high end cars.

    There are no doubt many though who don't have this money. Do they keep the cars on the road longer? I would suspect they probably do extend out the fleet somewhat. Probably the ration is similar to the rest of society - which is .78. So if you've added 1.5 million people you might need an extra 750-1000k cars?

    Unfortunately the ABS haven't updated the data since 2021... Will be interesting when they do update it.

    Read this news a few days ago. Wheel hub engine with flyby wire control could be a game changer -Other than the solidstate batteries and 1000 kWh chargers about to land of course

    "no traditional braking system of disks, pads, or calipers as a backup, as well as no CV joints."

    "Lightweight hub motors help achieve 25% higher energy recuperation when braking as they allow more granular control of the slowdown effort."
    "Each wheel can act independently of the others, improving traction, while the hub motor concept shortens the turning radius by up to 15%. Drivetrain efficiency has been improved by up to 30%, too, thanks to the direct wheel control that eschews the energy loss during transfer through a more traditional setup."

    That last line is very interesting. Energy losses is a critical issue in many circumstances. A Golf ball size bit on nuclear fuel for example would provide every bit of power one or more of us could use for our entire lives.

    "The efficiency of petrol engines typically ranges from 25% to 30%, meaning that 70% to 75% of the energy from fuel is lost as heat."

    A stripped-down RR, Deefer or Disco with 4wd via 4 axial flux "pancake" motor could with the two other bits needed 'could' 'maybe, 'possibly' be a beast of a machine!

    I do think they reason why no one has actually done this yet is because there are really good engineering reasons why it's a bad idea. It's hard to imagine that a motor which gave sufficient power wouldn't be quite heavy.

    Yes, this is the truth.... Still, what is you're point? It is still 0.039% of the air. ie: a trace gas. This is all just absolute nonsense. Nothing australia does will impact the amount of C02 created in the world. Nothing we do will change any possible heating/cooling of the earth.

    We can do NOTHING. So why are we trying to bankrupt the country with stupidity?

    How about we talk about the planetary destruction going on to build all of these batteries being fitted to everything...... Yes I know, we don't care as that is in the "poor peoples" countries. so isn't a part of our atmosphere right? just like offshoring all of our pollution to china so we can claim how amazing we are.

    You forgot to add that it is a colourless, odourless trace gas, without which ALL life on this planet would cease. And, seriously, so what if the Sahara gets greener? The planet has been far, far hotter than it is now, and not in the too distant past. Anyone heard of the Medieval Warming Period? I'll bet there are people who would love to grow wine grapes north of Hadrian's wall, or wheat on Greenland. Did that back then, can't do it now. The planet doesn't give a stuff about us. It healed after the all the nukes they dropped, on Japan and some atolls and most of Nevada. It will survive the human race, which in the scheme of things is transient. People don't give a stuff either, they only really care about their own survival, not the planet's. Earth has been here for billions of years. Tech has been here 100. The hubris of believing we can have an effect is astonishing. Nope, the whole scam is about power and control, and the people who are driving the narrative all fly private jets, sip $10k champagne, have fleets of cars and have amazingly extravagant ocean shore properties they only live in sometimes, when they aren't jetting to Courchevel 1850, where we can't go. ( same people who bang on about DEI, or should that be DIE?)

    And, if my car does emit CO2, that's ok. The forests and crops need feeding, and they eat CO2.
