I sure hope we can restructure to be more than this.

It's called the "Resources Curse" as governments don't have to invest in their people's education, or anything else really, just dig stuff up and ship it out.

Thanks I hadn't heard that term.

And all the capital instead of going to business to create productive enterprise gets funnelled straight into the property market. I did a semester of economics at uni, and the idea of bank lending was supposed to be to allow businesses to invest and create jobs and wealth. Meanwhile...

Thank goodness for that, I was starting to think you were an economist, and can overlook a youthful indiscretion. Those graphs are a mirror image of each other so definitely related. Makes sense with a fixed pool of money.
