I dunno if it is true, but i read that the actual exhaust emissions from a modern diesel vehicle, with Add Blue, has less particulates than the air going into the engine.
Modern diesel engines are indeed better than older ones. Particulate is supposed to be very low. However as we've learned from Dieselgate not all is as it seems. Even the latest and bestest diesel engines are allowed to deviate from the emissions protocol in certain scenarios.. warming up is one of them, and at other times when the manufacturer declares that running the protocol might result in engine damage.

But while that's important - the amount of co2 is not affected by polltion control. It's a straight equation. All engines since the beginning have been the same.

    • Diesel: ≈2.68kg CO2/L
      ≈2.68kgCO2/L
    • Petrol (Gasoline): ≈2.31kg CO2/L
      ≈2.31kgCO2/L
    • LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas): ≈1.51--1.6kg CO2/L
      ≈1.51--1.6kgCO2/L
The only way to not emit CO2 is to not burn things.

Anyway for the record I very much doubt the government will get any money from the NVES. The most likely outcome is they will get their act together and not have to pay it - or possibly buy credits from other manufacturers. I've no doubt they will be crying that they will have to pay it to try and get out of doing anything.

Don't bet on any fines being paid ever.

Look at Mazda. They were up the gun, and they've just announced they are now going to sell what looks like a decent EV for 50k. From what I understand it looks like they will sell well.

Topically, with the current fuel situation, I've seen idiots hoarding up to 1,000 litres of fuel. What is preferable, a thousand litres of petrol or an EV combusting under your house?
Don't these hoarding morons realise that should there be a fire, regardless of the cause, their insurance will drop them quicker than a hot potato?
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.

Electric cars are not my cup of tea, but I see the advantage for people whose lifestyle fits in with electric. An electric car is no more throwaway than an ICE car bought today.
From my point of view, ICE offers greater flexibility. I cannot afford to operate multiple, specialized cars. To be honest, i can't really afford to operate my existing, desirable, ICE fleet.
For goodness sake get off you monotonous Chinese throwaway syndrome rhetoric and accept different people have different needs, wants and financial abilities. Your repetitive rendition makes me think you're envious because you can't afford an EV.
anything with a giant battery basically worth more than the vehicle is effectively a throw-away disposable item. yes, I know, they are going to last 100 milion km and 50 years .... or whatever ridiculous claim is being made lately. The chemistry in pretty much all lithium batteries seems to be ok upto about 5->8years. But don't worry, theses are going to last 25 years ... just "because". Its the pixie dust they blow over them at the factory I guess.

I don't hate EVs at all. I think they are fascinating. I will not blindly tollow utter stupidity though. Sadly it just doesn't appear to be in me.... I just can't do it. The EV's are currently the youngest and safest they will ever be ... well ever. Don't worry though, we know batteries get more usable and safer with age

a dead internal combustion car is a safe thing to just stack up around the place waiting to be "recycled". An EV is downright dangerous ..... I wouldn't want a dozen "parts cars" ev's in my backyard that is for sure. talk about fire risk.

who said anything about 1000litres of fuel in there yard.. That's not really much at all. What does a small farm tank hold. Personal transport is a minor part of oil shortages. People need to worry about tranport and food growing capacity. People getting around in private cars is the least important thing

Blindly Following is funny really Did you know "Sydney once had the biggest tram system in the southern hemisphere?

" Most Australian cities had tram networks and all except Melbourne ripped out as cars needed the space

The irony that NSW had two tram lines on the Sydney Harbour bridge ripped up for cars that quickly filled, overwhelmed and became a car park with the increased traffic. ABC iview Black Swans made me chuckle. Sydney Burning all their trams is honestly an item us Mexicans can laugh about

On the fire risk or recycling - In Geelong last week "A wrecking yard in North Geelong was engulfed by an out-of-control fire around 4 o'clock, with gas bottles and cars exploding and sending huge plumes of smoke across the area. Fire crews arrived to find a vehicle on the back of a truck ablaze, with flames rapidly spreading to nearby gas bottles. An emergency warning was issued for the corner of Thompson Road and Armstrong Street as multiple triple-zero calls reported the explosions and smoke" Link
As previously stated I am not at all fussed about other choices. People can do it their way as can other states or countries. Some choices including tram networks are clearly a huge stuff up in hindsight as is Driving short distances in heavily built-up areas where tram lines, buses or our feet work Close

If You're Listening - Black Swans

We even had trams in ballarat. Just think how amazing having vintage trams heading to each suburb would be. The "last stop" was a 10 ... maybe 15 minute walk from our place. If you talk to my parents, everyone seem to hate the trains. The bus system is pathetic. Each time they open a new suburb, they remove existing bus routes from the existing suburbs. Its a pathetic joke. Basically, you really do need a car unless you don't actually do anything, so can afford to spent an entire day trying to move across town and back.

Trams must slow the traffic and cause problems. I think they were huge costs to upkeep (which doens't make sense to me ... but anyway).
