You can get a 12v ac compressor.
Tesla run heater matrix and AC comp directly off high voltage battery pack. As high as 400v

Depends on the set up. You can sleep in the back of a Tesla and have the AC running all night. Uses up a few measly percent

Frankly at 400V and 60KWh a Tesla battery would power my House ducted A/C for close to 3 days (72 hrs) in the heat of summer. I could hook it straight up to the PFC rectified bus and just switch it on. I'd have a bugger of a time driving the house anywhere though.
BLDC compressors are the future as the cornerstone of a fully hermetic automotive system with no potential for leaks. That's a relatively long way off however.

Full hermetic systems have been around for years,and yes they can all leak refrigerant,no matter how well they are built......

EV don't use the 12V supply for AirCon, The 12V battery is minuscule and is used for lights / contactors etc , if the 12V battery goes flat the EV is dead.

On my old 130Tdi I had considered plonking one of these in the roof
No different to normal AC you’d just set it so it can only operate with engine running
Much easier to run a couple of cables than the plumbing and wiring of a bet driven compressor.
