"QuantumScape has a total of 288 patents globally, out of which 103 have been granted. Of these 288 patents, more than 62% patents are active. United States of America is where QuantumScape has filed the maximum number of patents, followed by Europe and China. Parallelly, United States of America seems to be the main focused R&D center and is also the origin country of QuantumScape.
QuantumScape was founded in the year 2010 by Jagdeep Singh, Tim Holme and Fritz Prinz. Company is doing business in researching about solid state lithium metal batteries for electric cars. As of December 2021, QuantumScape has a market cap of $9.99 Billion."

Panasonic took second place with 445 patents, and another Japanese firm, Idemitsu Kosan, came in third with 272 patents. Overall, Japanese companies occupied six of the top 10 rankings.
Toyota has researched solid-state batteries since the 1990s, and now holds patents in a wide range of applications, including battery structure, material and manufacturing processes. It is a race. The two companies above suggest 2025! Of interest is CATL and other Chinese companies who are also in the race

Seems the race is to put enough in place that they will own at least part of the process so can take a slice from everyone
