Missus like Jeep Wrangler, any good?

I cant understand why, but she does not want another Defender as we have one already, what is wrong with two, guess only a woman understands that one
It would be the diesel of course and the 4 door with leather seats if they do that option.
I had a bit of a search and only the auto box comes up with the diesel motor is that correct can you only get the auto with the diesel?
Some say Jeep in general are not reliable, is this true?
How are they for servicing , reliability, parts costs etc, basically are they a good 4x4?
    Thanks guys

Let her test drive the Jeep and then go and test drive a 90,so she can compare them, for finish, ride, quality, and then maybe she just wants the pose/fashion statement of the Jeep.

SWMBO was the same and bought one 4 years ago. We got the 70th anniversary edition with leather seats etc. so she was very happy with it.
Ours has been reliable and inexpensive to run for 140,000 km now, we did the sums on the diesel and the difference in fuel economy from the petrol meant that we would need to do 500,000km to recoup the cost of the diesel upgrade.
The petrol does about 12 - 13 litres per 100/km on road but is thirsty off-road, this might be an issue if you are touring but we are not using it as a tourer and the occasional day trip off-road does not justify the diesel.
We put a 2 inch lift and Bilstein shocks in and that improved the ride somewhat but the biggest difference was replacing the factory tyres with 255/70/17 ones, it transformed the ride and handling.
The Jeep is at least as capable as my D3 was, possibly a little better on sand due to less weight. Be aware that owning a wrangler is the other side of the coin to owning a Defender, you MUST wave to every other Wrangler driver. Nic got bailed up in the Aldi carpark the other day by an American gentleman who asked about her jeep and swapped stories about the Rubicon trail and Jeep mods.....

Less than that I believe, ours doesn't have a towbar for a reason.

    This in the news recently:
    https://www.accc.gov.au/media-releas...-investigation

So if you have a jeep, and the dealer was not forthcoming to remedy your concerns, now is the time to have the matter re-heard, as the ACCC has them under the microscope.

I have never owned a jeep, but would consider one if I were in the market for a new vehicle. So not really a 1st hand experience.

Are you asking about the Wrangler or your Missus?

Post up some pics and we can give you a rating.
    I'm joking, of course.

Several years ago I had a Jeep Cherokee, my brother had and still has a Grand Cherokee Laredo. Both were (are) great vehicles, well designed, well built and reliable. Can't comment on the Wrangler but no reason to think they weren't as good. From a 4WD perspective none of this IFS etc crap beats a good front axle, right ?

The downside was Jeep Australia's spare parts prices were absolutely poisonous, fair dinkum they made Land Rover genuine prices look good. At the time I remember the front axle price for my brothers Laredo was $2K each !!. It was far cheaper to buy genuine Mopar parts in Europe and air freight them to Australia which is what the Jeep forum members were doing. At the time Chrysler had fallen out of love with Mercedes and it was way, way cheaper to buy genuine Mercedes engine and transmission parts for Jeeps CRD vehicles that used Mercedes engines and transmissions.

Another issue was spare parts availability, this was in the aftermath of the GFC and Chrysler was in damage control mode and about to be gobbled up by Fiat or 'Fee-art' as the Yanks say. There was basically no (costly) spare parts holding in Australia, not even a Wrangler clutch plate. I kid you not, a forum member had to wait for one to be flown in from Singapore or Hong Kong or wherever Jeeps south east Asia spares holding was.

I'm not saying it's the same now but I'd certainly check on Jeeps spare parts prices before committing to buy.
