I think that's why JLR kept making it despite being a basket case as far as the bean counters were concerned.

Poor bugger bean counters.

Let's face it part of the reason we all love LR products is at night our subconscious mind sees a defender silhouette on the African savannah so they need to keep an off-road icon going. Cheers

But it will need to be built for purpose ie HD hose out simplicity to win me over.

What sort of work are you talking about, exactly? It sounds like what you're really looking for is...

2018-20 is going to possibly be a very interesting time in the ute/ wagon derivative area!
First is the one we want to see, the new defender,
It's competition will be hilux/4tuner, cruiser series 7x , ranga/Everest, amarok and dmax/MUX etc those are the current competitors, but by 2020 there will be;
Amarok wagon, merc ute based on navara and possibly the next gen Dodge Ram 1500 in Rhd direct from the factory with 3 engine options, v6/v8 petrols and the 3.0tdv6 from the grand Cherokee , throw in a possible ram wagon and jeep grand wagoneer( but that will be more of a D5 competitor) and it will be a market to suit all tastes! Also to compete with the 2 door wrangler and the small hole left by the fj and defender 90 there will be the bronco , which is based of the ranger so would be an easy rhd swap.
Then there will also be a wrangler dual cab with a 3.6 v6 petrol and either a td4 or a 3.0 tdv6 ! This could be another live axle option for those who don't want independent all round or are looking to do modifications.

I heard the new Defender will be based on the Evoque soft top. Same running gear, 19" wheels a different body shape (think latest Jeep Renegade) and a khaki canvas top to keep the S1/2 dreamers happy.

Yes, interesting. I'll bet the Koreans will produce something too as Hyundai seeks worldwide domination. And there may also be a Chinese ute by then.

Yup the 2 new chinese ute/suv's will look very similar to the defender and wrangler dc/wagons, with one called the "LAND-WIND Defunder" and the other called the "Sheep tangler" :D;)
They will be made with asbestos insulation to reduce their fire hazard's after copying the jeep wiring systems and have a 2.5 star crash rating , similar to a soggy paper cup!

Yep, Brexit could result in a 10 percent tariff on British vehicles to enter Europe, JLR's biggest market, so it would be logical to build the Defender in the new plant in Slovakia. Another example of why Brexit is a stupid mistake which will harm Britain.

I disagree. They will be free to plot their own course through life without being directed by bureaucrats from Brussels. Let's check back in 5 years and see how they are going....

Shouldnt have been surprised it looks like every other model now... Land Rover have the laziest design department after Porsche.

Looks tiny and like a city commuter. No one should be surprised they went down this road - only using the name, and nothing else.

They’ll sell heaps... just not to die hards like us...

It's not what it will look like...if anything it's false bodies on the new Defender running gear - test mules only. ...It might also just be a doctored photo!

cripesamighty
4th December 2017, 03:27 PM
There is another thread running which has discussion about these test mules, both the Defender 90 and 110. Of course we still know very little about what's under the skin!

One good point,at least its rear end is nicer than the D5.

In fact it could be road testing of the updated D5 rear......

But there is no way that is the new Deefer.

Surely it can't be as similar looking as all the other models.

The average Jo will have no ****ing idea what is what, and that certainly won't do sales any favours.

I think that this is just the latest in the long line of Bovine Excreta photos of the new Defender that absolutely no one has seen or heard any credible evidence of. (Except perhaps for John)
One doesn't have to look very closely to see that it's a photoshopped D5.

Maybe it is my computer skills[bigsad]

That new Defender is a cracker,i wonder if there are any long wheelbase models in the pipeline,or maybe even a utility version?

It's obviously a lot of money, but it isn't totally silly. I mean, a Range Rover SVR pushes $250k and you'll lose 40% of that in 3 years. What else can you buy for this side of $300k that's as rare and as cool as a 400hp factory V8 Defender? It's unlikely it'll ever be worth less than you paid for it too.

A better investment than Bitcoin I'd say, and a hell of a lot more fun[biggrin]
