Photography is an art and we all appreciate the images in a different way.
For me the second shot of WhiteD3 is very nice and have a great mood.
A fine image indeed.

I think the second shot (D3) could be cropped at the bottom to give it a pano effect so that you dont have the 'void' on the bottom.
Mind you, the white rails draw the eyes to the centre where the clouds are...

Was up there for about 90minutes or so... took over 100 shots but mainly because I was experimenting with exposure settings. Got some nice ones too, but if I had a wide angle with GND filters the images would of been stunning!!!
Everytime im up there on my own, just me and my gear its such a great feeling, almost spiritual. Such a fantastic place to live (I know, im biased )

Yes, very nice.
I would explore the option of cropping a bit at the top to move the horizon out of centre and also to give the pano effect.

Thanks :)
I'm not sure if my friend set up those rocks or they were alread there.
I did think about the horizon being in the middle when I took it but because I dont have any grad filters.. yet. I didn't feel I was getting enough depth in the sky.
I tried a slight crop though.

What the heck....here's some "amateur" photos I took last year when I had my new Sony Alpha camera.
The 2 similar looking ones are taken at Lake Joondalup in the northern burbs of Perth, WA. And the sunset shot through the trees was taken at Cottesloe Beach, again north Perth.
Hope they cut the mustard with some of you more professional types...!! :D

David,

Would you be willing to share some details on how you took that pic and educate an amateur in the process?

The shot was taken with -3 GND and -2 GND filters stacked together to balance out the bright sun. Shutter speed was 1/2 sec @ f18 ISO200.

Usually I don't like actually including the sun as it tends to be too bright, even with filters. I much prefer shooting sideways and getting the soft reflection off other objects such as rocks, sand or cliffs etc. This day had a fair amount of cloud helping to hold back the sun though.

The picture was first processed in Capture NX where basic adjustments made and colour control points added to areas for localised tweaking. Places I used them include boosting the saturation in the colour of the sky along the top, contrast on the clouds and contrast, saturation of the rocks. Don't be worried about going nuts with control points. Sometimes pays to add some without adjustments to cancel out unwanted tweaks. After tweaking I saved this out as a 16 bit Tiff file.

The Tiff was opened in photoshop where I added an colour balance adjustment layer (mode = multiply) with boosted blues and greens and used a mask (inverted) to bring out some detail in the water. Just have to paint on the mask where you want the water enhanced. Opacity of this layer is dropped back so it's not too strong.

I did a small amount to cropping to remove unwanted water at the bottom of the pic and a final curves tweak. Lastly I saved as JPG, resized and applied an unsharp mask (too much I agree).

Shutter speed for these types of shots has to be just long enough to get the nice flow of the water and feeling of movement but not too long to go completely silky smooth. Usually have to take a few shots to to get the water flow right.

Hope that helps a little.

We got there just before first light. I arrived at 5:15 ish and Mark was already there. The pre-dawn was pretty dull. Once the sun had been up a for 30 minutes we were thinking of leaving and suddenly the sun poked through the clouds and there was 10 minutes of the most amazing colours, light beams, etc. The pictures truely did not do it justice.
Mine was taken at 06:17. At 06:19 the sun burst through and that was the end of shooting.
There were lots of lights on, but the later shots don't show them as it was daylight.

Here's one from a placed called either Canyon-X or the Warriewood Blowhole on the Northen Beaches of Sydney. Bit of a challenge to get here as it either involves a climb down the cliff with ropes in 2 sections or a bit of a hike over the bolders at low tide. Worth the trip in any case.

This shot was really just a test as I got there a little after sunrise. Next trip will be well before sunrise. I used a neutral density filter to slow the shutter down a tad to get the blurred effect of the water falling back into the hole.

I entered a photo contest with that last sunset I posted and received nada :p But the second entry I had was chosen for their 2012 calendar...I thought it was a pretty poor image by comparison and much preferred the sunset...guess you have to be in the mind of the judges eh? You have a very nice series of options.
The 1st and 3rd and 4th images after the raw version are very good and well composed from the point from where you took the shots.
The only observation about the composition in the original raw image and the 2nd PP version is thet the RHS is a bit heavy with the amount of rocks captured.
Perhaps you can explore a square version of this image and in this manner eliminating part of the RHS.
Also you will see that on the dark rock nest to the water it is possible to recuperate the shadows enough to make the image more balanced.
I can send you by email a versioon of what I am trying to say if you like to see it.
I just wonder if by placeing the camera more towards the LHS and bringing the sun a bit more to the center if the image will not improve.
The SS selected is very nice and by making the water soft it made a good contrast with the harsh of the rock surface.

I love the texture, toning and dramatic sky, you have processed this beautifully, the dark sky sets a great mood.
Being a n00b here, i thought i may as well ask the question... What is the etiquette on this forum, i notice more people "thank" people for their posts rather than comment? I'll play it safe by commenting and thanking :)

Here is one I took in winter. I had a nice skating session on the rocks and nearly dunked my camera a few minutes before I took this one. Notice how my feet were firmly on hard flat sand when I took this one.

Looking past Dorrigo plateau towards Coffs Harbour.
Four row panorama, 16 shots each row, focus-stacked for closer objects. 325 photographs altogether, 12 minutes to shoot the sequence, top left to bottom right. Exposure manually varied during sequence to compensate for increasing light levels as sun rose, shot at f/11, shutter from 1/15 to 1/125. Grass at right foreground is about 1.5 metres from lens, bush at left about the same. Detail is exceptional at print size, as would be expected.

The following 'graphs were taken over about half an hour on 22nd August while travelling at around 70kph on a rough road in Serengetti NP. We couldnt stop as it is forbidden to travel after sunset and we still had a few k's to do before we reached our camp.
All were taken with a P&S Canon G12. It was a bit difficult to hold steady while travelling so apologies for the non-horizontal horizon on some shots.
