If it was as you say, why was Whincup penalised by the officials.? McLaughlin had the race line , whincup was wrong by trying to pass and that why whincup tried to redress, if he didn't think he was wrong he would have continued at full speed.


That's how it was whincup's fault and by his action he knew it as well.

You didn't miss the Studebakers by much then. They raced in 1964.

They also had a tendency to run out of brakes. Not something you want to happen at Mt Panorama. :)

Rumour has it that as he was laying into the boot with the axe, one of the crew turned up with the key and he sent him away because the TV cameras were already filming the action. The story may be apocryphal . :)

I didn't know that he had passed away.

His little Celica was quite a rocket, but I don't recall the Supra ever doing that well.

I love the sound of a V8, but, I would have loved to have seen how the Turbo Falcons would have competed with the V8s over the distance. You can really wind up the wick on them, obviously reliability would suffer. They can suck the juice to.

In my opinion I would have liked the cars to have stayed as close to street legal as possible. I reckon this would have been better for the Aussie car industry. "Win on Sunday, sell on Monday"

Well, in the near future, you will be happy, because racing will not be confined to V8s.
Part of 888's new deal with Holden is to develop a V6 race engine, and I believe Nissan are also looking at a V6 based on some GTR engineering. Prodrive & Penske are looking at the possibility of running a Mustang, & there is hope of a new manufacturer being involved.
