Thread: ford ranger super duty

There's been a bit of discussion on the Grenadier thread. Given the GCM, the potential range, the equipment level and the ball weight and other scales* fitted I reckon it will be a game changer. Pricing, and of course whether Ford can pull it off will be very interesting.

* No more excuses for poor load distribution.

Definitely something to look into…

Can it be driven on a std drivers licence or will you need a Class X? licence ?

I imagine Ford will finesse the numbers...

Everyone is talking 4,500kg gross, that's a light rigid licence.
I'm betting it will be 4,495kg gross that's a car licence.

They really need to get reliability and quality control better than it is as well.
That comment is from our own experience with Rangers used for work,not what someones Girlfriend's Uncle saw on FB.

A mate actually sent a pic today of his work Ranger,i should throw the pic on here but won't,as it is sign written.It is on a tilt tray for the second time in the last 12 months,it is 2yrs old.
This time it is something to do with intercooler hoses he thinks.

Car license is up to and including 4.5T

And after some research,it dodges NVES(New Vehicle Emission Standards) as well,but hopefully they will vanish in a month or two anyway..

IF, and it's a big if, Ford could sort the reliability of the Super Duty versus the lighter Ranger, it would be a thing of beauty and would give the Grenadier a spanking. Like a modern 130. Ford say they have fixed the turbo issues etc but I would not be holding my breath. I am also suspect about that V6 pulling around big weights. I can't see how they could have improved it sufficiently over the D4 with the inherent crank design to get it strong enough. The cost will be eye watering for the Super Duty, but for those springing for a Grenadier or new Defender it won't be. Cheers
