    I guess that at the end the skills of the photographer is the important bit and not the camera but in the other hand having good "tools" make the job easy

    Regarding Pentax, Sony and others it is interesting that the members in the best photography forums and the majority of the pro photographers are using Canon and Nikon even if Sony, Pentax, etc are heaps cheaper.

    Cheers

    I understand. I have an old Pentax *istD DSLR as my AF lenses and my autoflash from my Pentax SFX are compatible

    Chucaro , That might be the case , Pro's using canon or Nikon outfits , I have no intention on going to Nikon or a Canon outfit , This would be of a Huge cost to me if I purchased equivalent lenses I already have It would be like trying to convince me to go Toyota and buy all the accessories for it for touring when I have a very capable and reliable landrover which is already well equipped to go out the Bush

    I recently made a similar decision in the purchase of a new digital SLR .
    Despite having a great collection of Pentax 35mm SLR lenses and a Pentax 1st D Digital Pentax body - I wasn't happy with the general photo results and I have always been disappointed with the lack of accessories available for Pentax cameras in general .
    I'm keeping my Pentax 1st D and using it with my prime pentax lenses for specific photography shots only .
    I went for a new Canon Digital Kit because there are much more options and accesories available .
    Guess it's all down to personal choice in the end .
    Cheer's .

    Hi Kev;

    thanks for your post , I assume from your post that you purchased the Pentax *ist D , The K-7 is a quantum leap compared to the *ist , even to it's predecessor the K-20D , equipped with the same cmos sensor.

    it has a 4 channel readout as apposed to 2 which allows for much faster Photos and Video output. one important accessory option for me was a bettery grip which is also available for the K-7 , Pentax have brought out a whole new range of Lenses for their D-Slr cameras.

    As I don't take many pix and I really don't have the interest to do so, the second hand *ist D is Ok for me. I couldn't justify spending thousands on a camera that would hardly be used. 'Twas the same with my film cameras. My daughter complained we've got virtually no photos of her or her late brother over the past 15 years.

    I used to cart the digital camera around and not take photos. As a result, I am now tending to leave it at home. It's too heavy to lug around. I'm now sorry that I bought the 18-200 zoom - a waste of money. It seemed a good idea at the time.

    I recently went to the Gold Coast for a week and took 5 or so shots. Ditto with my trip to Darwin - actually I took none in Darwin - just a few flying over the Channel Country.

    Same here Ron , My options were simple , buy an affordable Body and use the Lenses I already have or sell the lot including the flash and other accessories and change outfits completely( this wouldn't have made sense ) as I said the K-7 is a Quantum leap from *ist-D or even the 20D , if anyone reads the specs on the K-7's , it is a very capable semi-Pro D-SLR camera.
    it's also the first Pentax capable of Hi-Definition Video.
