The Nankeen Night Heron Nycticorax caledonicus are resting during the day in dense bushes near lagoons and swamps and hunting during the night.
This is a male with breeding plumaje.

Very nice grumpa, I must say the large eyes of these birds really make the shot. How did you manage these... are they captive birds?

Actually, we had one flying around Adelaide city when it escaped from the zoo! Fortunately, it was retrieved by zoo-keepers the next morning. All of these shots were of captive birds. Thanks for your comments.
