Well I'm pretty sure the one I saw was an immature male but it was definitely Anhinga novaehollandiae and not Anhinga melanogaster. So between us we kind of captured a pair :)
As for crawling on the ground... definitely with you on that one ;)
Also the monopod does make a handy walking stick.
After emigrating my host site from Spain to Brasil the images in my previous post are deleted :(

Been a few of these noisy things around lately.Channel-billed Cuckoo or Hornbill.They are very shy,hard to get a good pic,this is the best i could do.

They are a large bird and lay their eggs in a crows nest.Their young are among the noisiest in the bird world and keep the crows on the hop feeding them.All the crows young are kicked out of the nest.Quote:
