Life and death in the garden. And breakfast.
Spied this Greater Coucal or Crow Pheasant (Centropus sinensis) (I'm no bird expert, had to look it up) battling, killing and then eating a snake that I cannot identify (no expert here either).
Had to shoot through a rather grimy and heavily tinted window so quality is not what one might have expected from a Nikon D3s + 28-300 combo.

The fresh remains of an Adélie penguin, Pygoscelis adeliae having just been lunch for a Skua. I took this a few years ago on Zolotov Island, Antarctica. I've used this photo to settle the argument about whether penguins have knees.![]()
