So awesome.

I spoke to European Cameras today, they say initial pricing will be around $1700 and they are taking names for pre-orders.
Considering the exchange rate that seems a little steep, but no doubt they will sharpen it a little when they get their hands on some.

$1700? Thats not tooooo bad.... I talked to my mate at camera house and he said it will be $1999 there.
He also said should be able to get it 1st of November.
I can't really see many benifits to the D700...
ISO seems to be pretty good

$1200 US is $1282 AUD for those who haven't done the maths. I'd buy overseas and take the chance on needed to courier it in for repairs if required.
It will be interesting to see what the price is 3-4 months after it becomes available.
For $1700 you can get a grey import D300s. But if you can get one for something close to D90 pricing that would be worth considering.
Cheers, Steve

Have pre orders for $1499, so hopefully my friend was quoting a kit.. otherwise camera house is going to be owned.
I think you might aswell get an international warranty with grey to save the hassel of shipping.
Now we're talking. The realities of the Aus market are that there are costs associated with getting stuff here. That is the sort of price premium you can justify over imports by providing local service.
I'll still have one of my team members in HK check out the local shops to see what the street price is in a couple of months.
Cheers, Steve
Yeah. I'm happy to pay a certain % over "best internet price" to support a good local shop (I've been buying from ECS for years, and they have always looked after me) but 1300 to 1700 is a significant percentage.
These cameras are going to sell very well I'd say considering the specs, so if they can't be made fast enough prices will remain high. (although ramping up for the d7000 may explain the shortages of all the other Nikon cameras recently...) I was actually thinking of getting a D3s! This will keep me going until the new D700 is released next year.
