Probably can do it on a Mac - not sure, but it's a specific software/hardware combination that makes sure your monitor reflects accurate colours.

    Spyder pro4 in my case.

why do you use 5800k instead of the recommended 6500k

or thats what my 3pro recommends...

Get a proper Calibration program with the hardware... It'll work a lot better, and needs to be done less...

As above... The Spyder range is great! (3pro) No issues since it's purchase.

That's a good question - I'm sure I started at 6500k, not sure I really understand the process, I just follow the steps .
Maybe V4 has extra controls ?
End result for my main monitor was 97% of sRGB.

5800K, 6500K is the colour temperature for your ambient light. Setting the colour temp (white point) is similar to using filters (in the bad old days) or white balance (good new digital days) to overcome the colour shift for ambient light.

In this case you are setting the colour temperature for the ambient light in your office, or wherever your computer is set up.

Most monitors allow you to set colour temp in the hardware setup, although most users do not worry about hardware settings and go straight to the software that came with their video card.

The spyder calibration device checks ambient light on a regular basis, although I'm not sure if it compenasates for colour temperature. Maybe I should recalibrate and see waht it does...

That would fit as I generally calibrate at night under reasonably low lighting, as that is the conditions I usually work on photos under.

The Spyder was taking regular ambient light measurements.
