The photos shouldn't be gone but the iPhoto library is most likely corrupted.

Good advice on the little sony. They did get it charged and took hundreds of photo's.
I collected them from the airport last night and at home we loaded the photos onto the home computer (Apple Mac). the photo's downloaded and as I always do I then deleted them off the camera. iPhoto auto sorts them into daily events, and then we started viewing, 146 photos on first day and some really good shots in amongst them. Then I back clicked so we could open the next day's photos. Immediately a window popped up saying an unexpected error had occurred and iPhoto needs to close. When reopened all the event windows were still there, but all empty. Every photo is gone, and we hadn't even viewed them all yet.
Very very disappointed.
But this thread is about cheap P & S. And on that, good advise on the little sony, it does appear to be a very good little camera.

Thank you. That worked and was surprisingly easy. They are all back, think I'll go wake the kids up now so we can finish going through them.
iPhoto really sucks for picture management. I import the pics onto the computer first then import into iphoto.
If they go missing search all the folders in the pics folder>iphoto. In fact do this anyway, you'll get a shock at the amount of crap thats created.
i download from the camera via the computer to a portable hard drive and take all my photos with the max mp i can
Little sony has worked a treat, some very good photos with it.
However today went surfing with the kids, I was taking photos, and never went too deep that I couldn't stand, the camera would never have been more than half a meter deep.
It stopped working.
Got out and dried myself and camera and then opened it up, it was very wet in the battery/SD card area. Not happy, I will try return it tomorrow. It's supposed to be waterproof to 5m
That's pretty bad luckhopefully they don't give you the run around!
I've had mine down to 5m without a problem, but after I always have to clean all the seals as they get grit in them stops them from sealing properly![]()

There's a difference between static proofness and dynamic pressure.
Put it in a pressure pot and it'll stand 5m of pressure. But take it down 5m and move it rapidly and you'll exceed the ambient pressure against the seals.
I suffer the same thing with our Olympus. Dries out ok though. You do need to be careful of the operation buttons, as these lead to working areas leaks are bad Mmmmkay. hey will stand pressure probably exceeding the rating but if the buttons are pressed it can fail.
Camera returned today. Two week turnaround, I certainly don't want the same camera back again, there was still salt water in the battery/SD card compartment when I handed it in.
I'll see what happens, it's a pity, it was a top little camera while it lasted.
