    New Compression Format

I wonder whether this compression format will ever become readily available.

BPG image format offers JPEG quality at half the file size

May become readily available - but will it be used, jpeg2000 (.jp2) never really took off.

The interesting part of that article is that they chose to use PNG files for all their embedded photos which actually has less compression (in most cases) than jpeg.
So is this a solution for a problem that is becoming less and less of an issue with prevalence of higher bandwidth internet? Probably.

Time will tell, but I'd tend to agree with Andrew if the only real benefit is size.
