- Try a low-power magnifying glass taped to the front of your lens, to get get close(er) focus.
A "Macro" lens must give an image on the film plane, - sorry, 'sensor' - that is no less than 1:1, at its closest focus.
. Its a big ask for lens design, and is priced accordingly, so don't pay too much for a modern day "macro" which may be more of a 'close-focus' lens.

						Here's a quick pic of a slow spider taken with my Happy-Snapper CANON A430 .
- 4 meg and 4x zoom. (Seven+ years old)
I've used a very expensive Macro lens attachment, which just goes to show what you can do with a bit of ungenuity.
Pic of Boris is full-frame and shot from a few inches away. NO tonal manipulation, sharpening or any other fiddling
