    D60 secondhand advice

    hey dudes

a friend of a friend has a D60 for sale. it comes with a twin lense kit and i'm guessing a bag, not sure what else.

what do i look for in a second hand camera, scratches and bumps will be a good indicator of how they treated it, number of shots? battery life?

the lady is asking $600, i have had a quick look on the net and there are some second hands one around the $700 mark

Typically the twin lense kits don't tend to have the best quality lenses in them. This tends to govern the quality of the images.

How much is an equivalent package new? I wouldn't think you'd want to be paying much more than 60%??

    reasons for not buying one?

so whats my options for a camera around the $500 to $600 mark as this is my limit $$$$wise

from what i can see on the net you can still buy a D60 new, in aus around $1000 and imported $700

I had a D40 prior to my D90, only reason for the replacement was loosing the D40. I was happy with my D40 as I didnt see the need at the time to spend extra money. Took some really slick pics that print to A4 size with no problems at all. Have a read of this link on the D40, The D 60 supercedes the D40 I think. Nikon D40. There are not as many lenses available for Nikon up to D90 I believe but with the D60 in the first link and later on buy another bigger zoom I believe you will end up with a neat little camera.

You may need to walk another 200m to get a shot.
I believe the warranty is good, I purchased my d90 from here and will use them to replace my vidio camera in the next couple of weeks and then again in jan for a new zoom lense.
    cheers

The reason I wouldn't pay that is I think the price is high for a second hand unit.....the D60 is ok if you just want to take snaps and not adjust to much or bracket etc etc....(therefore this camera doesn't suit me)

but also I would be looking at a grey import especially as we are so strong against the US dollar and get something like an 80 or a 90 the 80 isn't produced any more but you we still be able to get a good price on them. I put a link up not that long ago for greys online D90's were going for just under 400bux and they had D80's on there for under 3.....yes its an auction site but they had like 12 on there.

that my only reason I feel for a little bit extra more you could get a far superior camera that's new.
