    New camera ordered..now the wait

Mrs Santa gave me the go-ahead so I've ordered a Canon 500D + EF-S 18-200mm f3.5-5.6 IS lens from DWI.

I settled on this lens as a good all-rounder. The reviews were reasonable and its within my budget. What I'm saving will go towards a good landscape lens some time in the near future.

Wasn't after the video functionality but there was only $100 between the 500D and 450D so I thought I'd like the extra pixels and processing capability.

    Now the wait

Canon's are just to inaccurate due to the lack of rifling

It arrived this morning, so that's 6 days from order to delivery via Fedex from HK.

Both the camera and lens look the genuine article although I suspect the camera was bound for the Canadian market as it's mentioned on the serial number plate, and the charger lead has a nth American plug (an adaptor was in the box).

Congrats! Nothing like a new toy to start the day.
Whereas I had to make do with a text message that mine has been delayed.

Mine is the official distributor who must remain unnamed ... I am getting a good discount so cannot complain about a one-day delay. Hope it's just one day ... supposed to be in my hands just about now.

The old-school strap is from my FE2, circa 1986

    Still waiting to play, though

Very nice! Set the Auto ISO at 200 - 10,000 and 1/100 and have fun.

Is that the 50 f/1.4G I can see? I've got it's predecessor the "D" series, its 21 years old and works really well on the new body. Didn't like it on the D200 as it was rather soft.

I know why you didn't use the D3s strap supplied. I think Nikon supplies the cheapest strap it can with the camera Yesterday I ordered a LowePro Voyager-C strap though so will see how good that is.

I'm still awaiting my 2nd battery (and cover) it's on back order from Nikon AU for a month now

    I'm chuffed
Still going through manual, can't wait to get snapping.
Why do you need another cover for the second battery, doesn't it use the same one?
