Always a good idea to check. I guess you want to check that some aspect of your planned project will match your expectations, but we dont know what your expectations are or what exactly you wish to test/confirm? Is it image quality? resolution? or optical density?

My very first scans were disappointing. It took me around 2 weeks of perserverance to learn how to get good results. Not only in the use of the scanner, but I also had to develop new post process technics and the use of tools such as neat image. This is why I suggest caution before putting too much weight on a single test of a borrowed negative/reversal.

Good luck with your project, I'd also like to try it one day

On some of the earlier scanners one of the issues with large negatives was sag. When they touch the class surface you can get a halo effect. I haven't seen any reports of this with the V700.

Newtonian rings. Hence the Doug Fisher suggestion. Can effect all scanners. Otherwise I understand espon sell the wet mounting kit separately to bring it up to V750 spec, but not in Aust.
