    A New Visitor

Had a new visitor today, actually a pair. Very common throughout Australia but the first time I've seen them at home and we've been here since 1981. Here is West Gippsland, Victoria between Pakenham and Drouin, 1 mile north of the Princes Highway

    Rainbow Lorikeet

    Nikon D70, 1/320, f 5.6, ISO 400, 18-135mm kit lens.
Strangely ISO info wasn't recorded with the rest of the data, had to get it manually.

    Hi DeanoH

Did you underexposed the image to have so much ISO noise or the D70 is like that at 400?

It's in there on the EXIF of the image you've posted as 400.

Green Rats is a good description and I think anyone in northern Australia would be glad to see them move south for a while.

Right on the money Arthur, this was a quick grab the camera and fire, totally operator error and a kit lens at max. zoom. PP of 1 complete stop and sharpening. I would have loved to have the time to grab the D80 with the Nikkor 80~400mm f4.5~f5.6D VR, or even to properly set the D70, but it wasn't to be.
I actually like the D70 over the D80. Bit hard to explain, the small display with its non intuitive controls can be very frustrating, but I like the colour and exposure 'feel' over the D80.
What excited me was the first time I've had Rainbow Lokikeets at home.

    Thanks.
When I call up the properties of the image in Windows 7 the ISO field is blank. I'll download it onto SWMBO's XP machine and see if it's any different. Don't know if its a camera or OS thing?
I use ACDSee for my PP as can't get my head around PS, even got CS3 sitting here gathering dust.........sigh.

As for the lorikeets, a bit rarer down here. Rats with wings is what we call Sulphur Crested Cockatoos.

We get sulphur crested and black cockies too. Bloody destructive things!

As for the EXIF, sounds like a Windows 7 thing. Have a look at Opanda. It was always good on Windows machines for viewing EXIF data.

Deano, you can improve the original of that shot a lot in PSCS3 if the original is on NEF.
If you like I can give it a go on your web post (even if it have very little pixels to play) and show you that it can be a keeper. Perhaps cropping out the legs on the original and converting it to a portailt will be even better.

    Cheers
