The floor area of our Hannibal is 2.4m x 2m. Two ladders and entrances. Bit squeezy but could do it for you. And not much more effort to put up and down as the smaller tents.

    Our "Featherlite" RTT

WE have a Featherlite RTT mounted on our Defender 90 using a Wind Cheeta rack. To fit this originally I had it direct to the rack using the supplied aluminium beams but found we had trouble with the Zip and sail track for the cover. I added a spacer 25mm X 50mm to raise the tent base above the side of the rack, now much easier. I found I needed an extension to the ladder as the Defer is pretty high. First time I used this I had too much angle and the slides of the ladder extrusion broke but this was fixable as the extension is around 600mm and we only needed 200mm. We love sleeping in the roof top its nice to wake up with an elevated view of the world. However it does have some problems because of the height we now carry a small folding 2 step ladder thingy which doubles as a wash stand. In anything over 10 knots of wind the fly flaps around like a spinnaker and the bows fall out. Try packing up in a bit of wind and its easier to remove the fly alltogether.I have made a few mods to handle the strong breeze one finds in North WA . I use lots of occy straps and hang our wash water bottle from the ladder to hold it all down.
If I was 20 years younger and 20 kilos lighter it would be much easier to set up and pull down. They are a great idea if you are traveling each day but if you want to stay somewhere for a week its a pain to pack up if you want to drive down the beach for a fish etc. We do a lot of walking once we set up which is good for us I suppose. Fuel consumption goes up but our trip last week to Exmouth we found that if we kept under 2000 revs at around 90 kph we still did better than 10 litres per 100 ks . On our way home in a bit of a hurry this blew out to around 15L per 100 ks . So taking time is well worth it. I will keep the RTT for those expeditions where we will be driving all day and setting up nightly but for long term camping I will get a trailer or van.

    seen around Perth

I have seen a New 110 getting around Melville area in Perth with 2 rooftop tents on the one vehicle., They appear to open over both ends. Novel idea but probably common place in South Africa.

Don't know if it's the same one Mike, but there's a white Defender 110 with two rooftop tents parked at the boat harbour in Fremantle almost every weekend. Looks like a good set-up.
    Cheers .........

I am a convert, after finding croc tracks near the tent near an Adelaide river camp 6ish years ago..
Main prob is needing a pee in the middle of the night after a wine or two....

Mine is a homemade one, I will post a pic if I can find one.

    Another RTT convert too
When camping late in the year its nice to be able to drive down to the waters edge at the top of the high tide line and catch any breeze that might be present. Where we go camping that would not be advisable sleeping on the ground

We initially had the tent setup opening over the back of the tray but the ladder thing was a hassle.

Now have the tent at the back of the rack opening forward . This is on a 130 so the entrance now sits just at the back of the cab.

So climb onto bonnet (via an ally ladder I made) step onto roof and into tent.
Means you can have a wash on the bonnet and then sit on the roof admiring the view before climbing into bed. Our RTT has a verandah!!!

This pic probably sums it up better than my saturday morning pre coffee ramble...

    Pics found.

Cost: $100 for ply base and pine sides, $50 for elec conduit hoops, $300 to canvas tent maker.
If I did another I would make it 1.5m wide instead of 1.2.

Have a ladder, but just as easy to step on bumper, spare wheel and in. Very cosy in a storm.
