King Size Swag vs Kamp-Rite Oversized Tent Cot

Hi everyone, in the market for a swag or kamp-rite tent cot, don't know which to get. I will be using it for shooting, 4wd and fishing trips. Anyone know how good tent cots are compared to swags, or any other pros and cons between both would be great.

    thanks Goran

I have an OZ-trail Mitchell swag that I setup on a Coleman supersize Stretcher cot (tad over a metre wide), the swag pole ends fit nicely on the stretcher and I tie each end rope down to the ground with pegs. Works well for me as I hate trying to get up off the ground in the middle of the night for a ****, getting too old for that. I have heard that the tent cots have problems with condensation and as they are made out of Nylon they dont breathe or keep you as warm as a canvas swag, probably alright in the tropics though, Regards Frank.
P.S. As I have no Idea where you are from and no idea of what climate you live/camp in I can't recommend one over the other.

I have a tentcot which I've used a few times over the last couple years. In the cold the first time I froze as it is off the ground and the breeze keeps it cold underneath. An old skool hiking mat gives good insulation... They do suffer from condensation, though you can buy a fly for them.

I know a couple others that also use a swag on a stretcher which sounds like a good option... But

Was at the Brisbane camping show on the weekend and the Oztent display had there new canvas tentcot on display. Is much better made and comfortable than mine, and about the price of a good swag. Doesn't seem to be on their website yet as not available for another 2 weeks I believe but here are a couple pics.... Oh plus folds down a lot smaller than a swag or tentcot. Will look at getting one myself soon..

Local tent place has them for $229, I was considering one as with my setup of stretcher/swag I still need to be under cover as rain will accumulate under swag on top of stretcher. Not a problem at the moment as I take a Gazebo to setup under, but would be much easier and quicker to setup and takedown if only camping overnight, Regards Frank.

Okay that does look similar and haven't seen them but i am 90% positive the one i posted the pics of and saw was an Oztent version... it had real canvas and i think was around $450. As mentioned, the sales guy told me they were still a couple weeks away from hitting the market.

Guess Oztrail have been fairly quick at getting a copy out too; and with the top of there one acting like a fly should sort out the condensation issues. (fairly sure the Oztent one was like that too.

    Ok - Oztent not Oztrail.

$450 take the gloss off it though.

The Oz-Trail catalogue has them for $229, the OZ-Tent one at $450 would have to be bloody good for that price, can anyone that has looked at one tell me if either come with a mattress, Regards Frank.
