Kev,
I just make it up like a normal bed and then roll it up. If a bit colder than normal I'll fold one blanket in half. Nothing fancy.
And yes the canvas will soften with use
Steve
Last time I used it, I just chucked in an old sleeping bag (rotten things they are) and pillow........ I think it's still in there.
Didn't get the wool blanket at the time, partly because I'm a tightwad, and partly due to the fact that anything woolen used to make me itch like a mongrel.
Doesn't seem to affect me too much now, so I might pick one up later, and grab a cheap doona for that bit of "home comfort".
I did find the Saul to be a bit stiff at first, and was like laying in between sheets of cardboard. I'm hoping it'll loosen up a bit with use.

I have a Burke and Wills Simpson , without a doubt the best swag ever!
Used to use the Onland .... leaked like a shower spent heaps of time water proofing it ... zips fell apart twice ... got heavy duty YKK sown in... now that it's all fixed our daughter uses it.
Still can only recommend the Simpson 100%
I use feather down doona in it and never get cold or uncomfortable .
Another vote for Sauls. We bought two very basic singles about 10 years ago and they've been flogged all around the country with the boys disappearing on surfing trips and sleeping on the beach and so on. They're still as good as new. We just chuck sleeping bags and pillows in. Our bags have an extra removable cover for really cold nights. So good Aussie canvas and fittings is worth the money.
Hey Baz ... Did you get it yet ?

I was ALMOST convinced to get one of these:
A TUSKER Razorback
or
SAHARA Rover
but now I am leaning towards the good old SAUL swag... thanks for getting me more confused than before![]()
To follow on from a previous post: A write up today in the West newspaper. It does not say where ARB are having them made, so may not be Australian, but they do mention some pertinent points.
4WD: Swag like a small tent - The West Australian
... and when I asked could I buy one (ARB Newcastle) I was told at least 5-6 weeks wait ...
They had one on display. It does look good. Canvas is heavy enough, and the extra touches are nice, and there's plenty of room.
If you're in the market for a "mini-tent"you should seriously consider one.

Swag turned up today, after a bit of a debacle with the couriers sub contractor, who just couldn't be bothered delivering it because the instructions were to complicated apparently
"If knowone is home and you require a signature, go next door to No xx"
Extremely hard instructions to follow
Well it's bigbloody huge more like it, I'll open it up this arvo and fill it with all the suff we need, sheets, blankets and doona, I hope the reputation is as good as they reckon they are, so one Burke & Wills Redgum double is here, just in time for Belanglo
Baz.
Cheers Baz.
