    Kelly Kettle - first use

Wahoo. 7 minutes from lighting twigs to pouring boiling water. I can live with that. Could probably go quicker with more fuel, but I was being very conservative.
It certainly doesn't need much to boil.

    Thanks Kelvin.

I can see this thread developing into one of those "I get more power/economy/enjoyment from my Defender/Disco/Freelander than you do".

I think I have beaten that time, but it was a few years ago when I first got mine, so I will need to do a timed test again.

They're a good bit of gear aren't they.

    You're the $20 bargain buyer !

Good bit of gear eh ? You know they're going at full tilt when they start choofing and woofing like an old "choofer' waste oil heater

The thinner the fuel, the faster it burns, the hotter it gets.

Kelly Kettles are brilliant! Had one for three years now. Bought on-line from Ireland. One of the best bits of gear I've bought.

No matter what the problem - there's a solution. You've just got to find it.

That was a good buy!!, the kettle looks exactly the same as my British Army kettle, I paid 25.85 UK Pounds for it back in 1993 anyway it has given sterling service, cheers Dennis

    Neither have I.

The kettle performs best with small pieces of fuel that burn quickly. A cooking fire works best with a slower, more controlled heat. The two uses seem to me to be incompatible.

It works best for cooking rice, pasta, heating soups and casserole type foods .... For extended use cooking, best to put a pot/pan on the firepot without the kettle ....

... and, try dropping two or three heatbeads down the kettle flue when you first start it .... By the time your water is boiled, the heatbeads are started, remove the kettle, put the grill on the firepot, and there's your slower controlled heat cooker !
