Thread: Which fridge???

Having ownedt a Waeco Cf50dz for 2 years and having it fail for a second time 2 days before a trip to Fraser whilst in transit wigh all of our food for Fraser already in it, i bit the bullet and bought a 60l single zone engel. Some things i have noted on y journey. A dual zone dkes not work well as a single zone as there is to much variation in temp and it does not have enough plate area inside to be effective. The engel is a noiser unit i can tell it is running in a locked car by placing hand on the car, not a concern but you couldnt sleep on top of one. I think the waeco does not have enough heat exchange ventilation for when going gets tough engel and bushman have much more as do some others. Waeco warranty service is good but id rather not know this. Engel have an excellent socket/plug for hard wiring it screws in. I now have two fridges with different technology and think i have risk of both failing at same time covered. Oh last thing i didn't get a bushman because i couldnt find one in time it was at the top of my list for a normal compressor type fridge.

I haven't tried it, but the dealer told me that if you have the full Bushman set up with the collars and high lid and you set the temp at 2deg, then you effectively have a three zone fridge with frozen at the bottom, cold in the middle and butter and veggie zone at the top.

In my experience that is exactly how it works!

Better still if you want a freezer section that works and keeps things frozen, cut a piece of real estate sign or that type of plastic/PVC and place it down the bottom just below the main basket creating a freezer compartment

Here's a picture of my RR Classic after an quick upside down stop from 80ks, the Evakool's strap broke so you can imagine what happened but it kept running and still does........... Has a few minor scratches .

I'd like to see how many other fridges would survive that.

My BIL has a twelve year old Engel which survived a rollover in the back of his Hilux and it wasn't strapped down at all, itis a bit beaten up but it still works fine.

I have just got back after three magnificent days on the Murray at Burkes Beach No 3 out of Yarrawonga and after suffering through mid 40's and a few cold slabs of .... We had three fridges alongside each other for the duration so is this a great test. Engel, ARB and my Bushman. Day two both the Engel and ARB gave up the ghost, Bushman just kept on going with the contents of most of the other two fridges in it. I appreciate there are good and bad with all makes but this was a good test for the three fridges. The Engel and ARB both came back on when the temperature cooled to below 30 and these fridges are under 12 months old.

The only thing I don't like about the Bushman are the fiddly hinges on the lid, most times particularly when it is in the back of the car, when you open the lid it slides back and off the hinges and then it is a bit of a fiddle to put it back on, it also doesn't look that strong so I am worried it might get bent eventually.

But part from that minor quibble it is awesome.

Father had the same engel since 1980 and still going, one service. Picked up a 60l engel at cash converters the other day. $150-! (no 12v lead, oh look 12v doesn't work), already sold for $1000-. Now funding new ECU.
