Wow, that is ridiculously cheap! Much cheaper than these prices, http://www.kangarootentcity.com.au/welcome/page24.php which I believe are the only stockists, hence probably who is selling the ones you saw. At that price, I wish I could get my hands on one, but a bit far away![]()
I was tempted to purchase one as well ,when I was there, but I still haven't decided exactly what I want to do,and I already have close to $3k worth of canvas tents sitting in my garage.Unfortunately I am working every day, until after the show is over,so I can't get there again.
Kangaroo Tent city is the distributor, and I noticed that they have discounted the prices on their website, though nowhere near their show prices.I can get to Kangaroo Tent city any time, after the show is over,as it is located only a few Km from where the show is.I will have to keep thinking thing over in the mean time.

We have one of these as well, and we are very happy with it. It sets up quickly, and we have used it in the wind and the rain. One very windy arvo when setting up - at Melrose when we first got there, I did worry a bit about its strength, but it wasn't an issue. Plenty of ventilation as well.
My biggest issue with it is that there is almost no light block out, so when the sun comes up, you know about it straight away... No sleep ins in one of these, but your kids would have the same effect no doubt...
For the price, a good bit of kit.

After using a number of different brands of rather expensive tents over the years (all of which either leaked under torrential rain or became malformed under gale force winds), we had got down to 2 choices the canvas campmors from SA (very heavy as canvas and steel poles but a friends was the only one whch stood uo to a gale in the Vic High country) or a diamantina escape duo 2 room dome tent from kangaroo tent city which scored highly in a Choice study. We purchased the diamantina 2 and couldn't be happier. Its first outing was to Werribee for the National Pony Club C'ships in 2011. It withstood gale force winds of 100kph on one day and then didn't leak under torrential rain for 2 days.
I bought a Tent and 2 sleeping mats yesterday,
The local camping shop has a OzTrail Tourer 9 for $495, which is double the ebay price, so I bought this
Oztrail Tourer 9 Ripstop Canvas Touring Tent Quick Setup Brand NEW | eBay
pretty good value I think & should be OK for the odd side trip.
and put the $250 I saved towards 2x you-beut Exped Down Mats that I found on special at Summit Gear
I'm in love with my Oztent RV4! I see that you have/have previously owned a RV5. I understand your weight saving initiative, however, the seller for me was not weight but size and storage, and easy setup.
Having a P38 means the Oztent lives on the roof which is perfect for me as it allows more room in the Rangie for other gear, and it slides up easy, held down with okky straps.
I put it up and packed it away every day for my cape trip recently and was never frustrated by it. I was also the first one sipping ales and enjoying the camp fire every day too!
The turnoff for the jet tent was size when packed up - simply too big for a wagon when loaded. I make a habit of keeping everything below the parcel shelf and in the luggage area rather than all over the cab, so oztent is a winner!
Have not seen another tent that works as well, doesn't leak and sets up as easy all in one package.
And I don't mind bending over a touch to change my undies of a morning - a tent is only a short term place during the day, the majority of the time is spent enjoying the outdoors!
Cheers

Strength seems to come with the cost of weight , I've had a Serengeti tent for probably 20 years , easy to put up , strong & dry . It has taken everything the whole family has thrown at it for all that time & is still going strong . I would highly recommend them .
I've been following this thread with interest. Tonight I picked up an Oztent RV5 with all the fruit (2nd hand).
Cant wait to set it up in the garden this weekend
Cheers to everyone who contributed to this invaluable read.
