I have a small dome tent but am thinking of getting a swag.
I am thinking of the Kings Big Daddy Deluxe. My main hesitation is the size of it when rolled up.
I have the Land Rover but at times would just be in the Honda Jazz. I am a bit concerned how much room it will take up in there.

With a decent swag and an awning you don't need a tent.
I usually put up the awning with one of those lightweight mesh floor mats and cook and eat under that and I roll my double swag outside of the awning as it is waterproof and has heaps of room So I have No need of a tent and the entire setting up process takes less that 10min and packing up takes about 15min.
This sort of setup is less than ideal if it is bitter cold and bucketing down with rain But I rarely venture out in that sort of weather as I usually chase the Sun![]()

Back to swags.
I've had an old, thick canvas swag for a decade now and it still does the job although thanks to the pop-top Defender I rarely use it myself, instead I lend it to a mate who comes up from Victoria for the Annual Freezing Weekend In The Bush and he loves it.
I normally take a tent to lend to another mate but decided to get a swag for him too, as watching him put up a tent and then stuff around with an air mattress in the dirt, while highly amusing for the first couple of years, is now painful.
I found a Darche Dusk till Dawn swag going cheap but at 1400mm wide, it's a monster. One could easily fit oneself inside it with a large dog and still have room for a pool table. It's heavy and doesn't pack down very small either but it will either go in the car or on the roof so that's not even an issue.
I do get the sense that it's more weatherproof than my old one and here's the bit I like about modern swag designs - the tension comes from the adjustable for-and-aft pole that sits above the canvas....it doesn't come from only the pegs, which if in soft ground, can lead to sagging and pooling of water. With a pole up top that you can stretch independently, the hoops can keep the canvas in tension without over-pressurising the pegs.
I also like the fact that the floor is waterproof and comes up 4 inches or so all around.
I'm yet to test it in anger but it won't be long I'm sure.
