Me too, but none were as comfortable or as quick and easy to set up and pack up.

Had a king size Saul for 15 years. Cannot recommend them too highly... comfortable, warm and totally waterproof.

However, they are not a good idea if:
    • Your wife and/or children need somewhere they can stand up to get dressed with some privacy.
    • You need somewhere to stand, cook, read, play chess, complete crosswords and/or eat in comfort out of the rain.
    • You have limited luggage space. I have seen and owned family sized tents that were smaller than a single swag.

    Easy fixed

We have a Burke & Wills Redgum Double deluxe swag, love it, yes it takes up a bit extra room being a double but less room than 2 swags, all the sleeping gear is already in it, so no dragging mattresses and sleeping bags and whatnot along as well, we just add our pillow and it's done.

Swags are really designed for short trips or trips where you're only camping the night and moving on the next day and can't take a trailer/Van/Camper and they take buggar all time to setup.

Looks like Baz has moved house. If you look close you'll see the bedside table, dresser and the kitchen sink.

Problem is that setup has more pegs than my centrepole tent and would certainly take longer to set up.

I think that is the point. Different systems suit different circumstances.

Love it Baz! This is exactly how my Land Rover loving Dad raised my Bro & I. We never camped any other way, and my Bro, his kids, & I still love camping out under the stars as well, with just a tarp strung between a couple of trees in case it rains. I've even had kangaroos thump past a couple of feet from my head while in the swag; gotta love our Aussie bush!
Your photo's are great; looks like a fabulous trip, but not sure about the snow! Was brought up in it, and find now I'm older, I get colder, and prefer to admire it's beauty from the comfort of a warm house, open fire, and fine scotch, or glass of red. Cate

Yes very true, just as a note on the setup in the photo, surprisingly it doesn't take as long as you would think, packing up is another story

Thanks Cate, it was a great trip, not as cold as I thought it was going to be, maybe the overcast weather helped keep the chill down.

I have used swags in the past.
Mainly for beach fishing trips in S.A. I have an original Jolly Swag and an early Darche dome. They are great when it doesn't rain heavily. Neither of them leaked but it was a pain in the bum to stay dry if you had to get up when nature called in the middle of the night and the condensation in cold conditions was horrendous. Give me a canvas Touring Tent,SIM, stretcher and a decent sleeping bag any day of the week.

    Hi Guys.
Considering buying a swag for future fishing trips.
The type with the hoops,do they hook into the base of the swag????
The reason I ask is the swag will get most use inside the annex of a mates camper or on verhandas etc.I prefer the air space rather than the old style swags.
Size isnt an issue,it will be transported in my boat,Graz has the accomodation,I have the boat

With my old dome style swag, the ends of the hoops fit into small pockets in the base of the swag, so van be used inside a tent.

edit: However mine needs a line from the top of the hoops, I generally only use it at the head end and tie it off to anything convenient such as my bull bar, instead of using a tent peg
