Short stops,, hexamine tablets, folding stove. Camping, small gas bottle, gas stove. Too easy. Bob
I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food

A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking

And the Fridge will be going where the LH rear passenger seat is.
Rays Outdoors have them. Nearly bought one, but already have good lpg options...

Ive been camp cooking every day for almost 2 years straight now.

Have the choice of inside the caravan cooktop, Cob Cooker, 2 x coleman liquid fuel stoves, and 3 el chepo Butane stoves.

I do 90% of my cooking on the butane stoves.

Except for the lamb rack in the cob cooker tonight, they cook beatufilly but are such a pain to clean

you can get a box of 12 Butane cartridges from BigW for less than $15, and butane camp stoves are regularly less then $20. can't go past them for value or efficiency.

everyone is going to have there own ideas. and that's a good thing, you pinch 1/2 of that guys set up and 1/4 of that guys and a bit of your own and bingo you have your set up and then you see some one else s and start all over again etc.

my camping now days is just for me and minime.

so size of our gas cooker two burner is not that big, and neater are out pots and pans. yet we have been camping with a family of 5. there two burner is much larger as is there pots and pans.

so really its for you to decide.

my stoves are in one draw with cutlery and plates etc. the second draw is pots pans and other stuff.

dry foods are in a box. because i take this out of the 110 when we get home same with the fridge. apart from tea coffee and sugar it comes out. every thing stays.

parts and tools are under the drivers seat. recovery Kites fishing gear cricket set T ball etc are also under the passenger seat.

i will take some photos on the weekend i hope.

    Thanks all,
I am definitely a newbie, but kiss is a common theme, offset by a few creature comforts. Everything is a compromise . I have a small butane stove, just need to add something sensible.

And a basic plastic tub(s) makes a lot of sense too.
By all means get a Defender. If you get a good one, you'll be happy. If you get a bad one, you'll become a philosopher.

I used to use ring burners but now use a cast two ring setup. 9kg bottle in a milk crate type box also. I found with the non-regulator cooking setups that the jets were always getting blocked with dust and grit, where the rings use a regulator off the bottle and gives no problems like that. The ability to cook big pots, pans etc is also very easy, but if windy they will need a wind break.

I agree the $20 butane burners are excellent value and the aerosol cans last quite well and are very cheap. Its easy, cheaper, faster to use one of these things in 90% of case for cooking.

Camp and cook within your means.

Remember camping, that thing designed to make you enjoy the simple things, enjoy the different (you have a rover, so comfort and secuity aren't your thing), enjoy the whatever. Save your money for other things.

Tough it. It's fun. I have been half way round this country in a VN Commodore and more off road in that car than most.

With no more than a pot, pan, water, basic food stuffs, sleeping bag and a tarp.

    Take your time.

    Don't waste your money.

    Don't be soft.

And don't try and keep up with the Jones's, but you can covet thy neighbor. Hahaha

    Will.
