    Trangia Gas Burner Adaptor

Hey guys, I have a Trangia, I was looking for an alternative to our single burner stove that are now banned, most of these hiking stoves are way over priced, pulling anything from $90 to $250, which is bloody rediculous, so I kepted on searching, finally found what I reckon is the business, a single gas burner adaptor for the Trangia, sits in where the metho burner sits, this burner also as an adaptor available to fit the gas canisters used in the banned single burners, as well as the standar gas canister used in these hiking stoves, so a win win, we can finish off our canisters and then start using the fatter ones.

Have had one of those for about 15 years and they work well.

Trouble is my wife hates Trangias and won't cook with them.

I always recall waiting waiting waiting while the kettle boiled with the metho and watching the grass grow considerably in the time taken.
    Regards Philip A

Trouble is if you are touring the screw on cylinders are unobtainable outside of capital cities or so expensive you don't want to know. Or that was the situation a few years ago when we were doing long trips.

Not so bad now, but with the canister adaptor, should be OK putting those single burner canisters you get in the 4 packs, as they are a lot more available now in most rural/remote areas.

Still, will keep the metho burner as a back up, can be hit and miss with anything Chinese

I use a coleman sportster II dual fuel 553. I use shellite in it. It has very good heat output, and good flame control. Cheaper on special in the states if you can swing it.

I realise this is not the avenue you were going down with your original enquiry, but they're worth considering

As far as I can see, only the sale of such stoves is banned, not the use of them.

All approval for them BY THE AGA has been revoked, when the shut off valve failed when re-testiing was done by Fair trading after a death on the Nth Coast of NSW, when another one blew up.

Hi according to the SA Gov website some double burner models are still compliant and for sale - they have a safety cut off valve ( primus one seemed to anyway -)
so it looks like some double burner models are ok and at around $60 are still great value

From sa.gov.au Website ...( easier to read on website than below)

""Portable single burner butane gas stoves approved for sale

This table will be updated regularly as the appliance status changes. Last updated 16 March 2015.

No single burner butane gas stoves are currently approved for sale.

Using a portable butane gas stove with integrated canister safely

If you already own a portable butane gas stove with an integrated cylinder:

Make sure the portable butane gas stove is Australian safety certified. If it is not safety certified, consider disposing of it.
Always use the stove according to the manufacturer's instructions.
The stoves are designed to be used for very short periods. Do not operate the stove for longer than the manufacturer recommends.
Portable gas stoves should never be used indoors.
Always allow for adequate air flow around the stove.""

    Cheers
