Sorry, I'm a bit late on the issue, as usual...
I have been using Trangia cookers for literally decades, starting in boy scout days. Have been using them since to my complete satisfaction. Advantages are:
low weight
everything included in the set
compact, stows away nicely
Ethanol as fuel is easy to come by, cheap, inexpensive (and does not smell if you spill it)
I bought a Cobb in Australia, though, which is great but too heavy and awkward if you want to go on a walking trip.
Trangia are a brilliant bit of gear, i still have mine from my motorcycle touring days, i bought mine here in 1981 i use Metho in mine though it's a bit cheaper and easier to get than Ethanol.Quote:

Okay guys so what other recipes does everyone have... i bough my first camp over cookset last weekend and hoping to christen it this weekend at Bribie Island... never cooked on the fire before like this... closest i ever got was cooking on the edge of a fire in cadets back at school with an aluminium mess kit.
So now have a 10 piece cast iron set from Anaconda... came in a wooden box with a 9qt pot to test out all for $75 on sale.
Now need to know what to cook in it ;)
Am I right in understanding that both cast iron and steel ovens should be "seasoned" with oil before using them in anger?

i use cast iron in my kitchen at home, frypans, sauspans, ovenware etc, if seasoned properly they are quicker to clean than a non stick bit of gear. not dishwasherable, you have to do by hand.
never used a steel one but wouldnt surprise me if you had to do them as well.

Yes you do, same sort of deal. Rub them over with cooking oil and heat them slowly. They smoke for a while and go black.
