techni ice - are they good

I saw these at the camping show and was wondering if anyone has used these? They are supposed to last alot longer than any other products. Pros and Cons would be helpful please.

    Thanks in advance.

They r handy & convienient but I think they r way overrated.
If u can freeze them down 2 -40degrees u might stand a chance of realising the manufacture`s claim but the average freezer wont go anywhere near that. That said I still use mine & they r ok, but dont believe the hype.

I recon just use normal ice, my main beef is that you have to take them home once they melt, whereas normal ice you just pour out.

I didn't notice any improvement over normal ice.

I haven't been impressed with it in my Techni-Ice ice box. Over Christmas, I think I got more days from party ice than the Techni-Ice frozen in a consumer freezer.

And the other weekend on the way to Cooma, the jiggles of the firetrails had the beer pushing against the "heavy duty" cells, a few split and made an oozey mess - the stuffs like slimey roe (fish eggs).

This weekend I'm going to just use party ice and see how I go.

I have them, they were given to me a reputable 4WD repair business and claimed they were the best thing since sliced bread. All I can say is thank god I didn't pay for them. I find them no more efficient that normal party ice. If you want the best results use 1.25L drink bottles cut in half fill with water and freeze. In a decent esky they will last much longer.

    Horizontally or vertically?

depends on whether the bottle is lying down or not when you cut it Ron!
Or do you mean vertical in relation to oneself, because then it depends on whether you are lying down as well as if the bottle is!

nobody uses whether any more, do they?

    Whether the weather be fine
Or whether the weather be not
    Whether the weather be cold
Or whether the weather be hot
    We'll weather the weather
    Whatever the weather
Whether we like it or not.

When I had to rely on ice in an Esky, I used to freeze water 2 litre icecream containers mainly because it seemed to last a lot longer than bags of ice, probably because of the reduced surface area for the same mass of ice.
It kept things cold enough and provided a few extra litres of water towards the end of the weekend.

I think techni ice is over rated. When I bought my ice box I was given a load of techni ice as well, used it a couple of times and then binned it, now stick to party ice or blocks. Just my opinion.
