Works pretty well, used to use it when going up to fraser for a week. Best to cover it in normal ice which then freezes up into a solid block around it. Make sure you have a good esky and dont touch it with your bare hands.
Not sure where out your way that you would get it. There was a place in Wacol on progress rd just as come off the motorway but cant think of the name, or theres Qld Ice at Hemmant who are ok to deal with but a bit of a trip for you.

I used it a long time ago. I think in one of the new super good eskies it would be worth a try. Thing is it's expensive, and you can buy a lot of normal ice...

We used to use it a fair bit, wrap the dry ice blocks in news paper and in
a good esky will keep stuff froze for at least 5 days (thats the longest we
had stuff frozen for) and there was still a lot of the block left...
you just gotta watch the kids if they go looking for drinks ect in the esky
nasty stuff on bare skin...
well worth the effort though...
a google search brought up a fair bit of info

This was interesting.
yep used it a couple of times and worked well......geez from memory probably around five days give or take
we used it for the non frozen esky as well, just wrapped a heap of tea towels around it to regulate the temp
Fishing tackle shops usually get it in on order-- can get 5 day blocks or 10 day blocks--- leave the paper its wrapped in on and if the esky is not over used thats how long they last. If food is in the same esky (it will freeze liquids if up against the ice) then it must be sealed as the ice gives off carbon dioxide ? gas and taints the taste of your food. Great value for the long trip to keep stuff frozen.

Haven't used dry ice, but friends of ours used to take it everytime we went camping.
As Tony suggested wrap well in newspaper and it will last well (from memory 5 days sounds about right). One big advantage is the 'dry' part, no excess water floating around in the esky.
When you are finished throw it in the creek - the kids love to watch it boil up.

WOW. An eight day block for $55. What's that? 11 bags of ice?
