Question single pole tourer VS blackwolf turbo's

a lot of discussion has been in here about best tents for ease of use... oztent, blackwolf turbos, single pole tourers etc.

I'm tossing up between a Oztrail RV9, Oztrail Tropical or a Blackwolf Turbo Lite FS270 and really can't decide which way to go... all of them are around the same dollars at the moment and size of packup is not really a concern.

My thoughts are for use by myself or with my partner as a quick and strong setup when not using the camper trailer or rooftop tent... really sick and tired of domes.

Oztrail RV9 or Tropical... thicker canvas so probably last longer, single pole design so nothing can go wrong other than a rip which is an easy repair, optional side poles when camping with my partner so can fit the queen bed etc.

    Blackwolf Turbo-lite FS270
... lighter ripstop canvas which in my opinion is fairly strong but don't feel as good as normal canvas, fairly complex locking system which unknown how long will last before breaking, more room inside compared to a 270 tourer as has almost verticle walls (though not a major concern as would be used with a easy-up gazebo regardless).

Anyone owned and used or had experience with both; eg: a single pole canvas tourer style tent AND a black wolf/oztrail turbo???

Appreciate any of your justifications of which way to go... will probably get on the weekend with your help.

I've got a Black Wolf but the heavier Turbo 210 not the lighter weight FS. Very happy with it. As for the centre pole tent, I think the reality is what you are comfortable with. Personally I'm like you and had enough of dome tents, but also I don't like the centre pole as you need to set everything up around it.

We camp with a queen size bed roll and just lay this out across the floor of the tent. It's made up of an old doona and sheets and underneath we put own a couple of Thermarest mattresses. The centre pole would cause no end of grief for me as I'd have to change this setup. But that's the way we do it.

As for set up and take down, I'd say much of a muchness, the BW is all contained so no putting poles together and then having to insert them (except the awning) but the centre pole is hardly a chore in that respect so it probably is a dead issue.

Have had a centre pole tent from freedom camping for 10 years, sets up very easily 4 pegs and centre pole and your done. Been used at least one weekend a month plus annual holidays and still in excellent condition. There not cheap but highly recommended.

You can get side-pole sets for the centre pole tents which is what we have as our centre pole will not fit the double bed with the centre pole insitu

They are easy enough to set up and pull down (can be done by 1 person but as with all things 2 makes the job easier). The packaged tent tho is fairly large ie abt 1m sq...the black wolf is just as big really but packs into a rectangular shape.....

guess it just depends on what you like
Was about to say that you can get side poles....I was originally looking at the oztrail 9 that your looking at Josh...I think Louis has one from memory...might be worth having a chat to him.

Can't comment on the Turbo-lite design, but I have a Freedom Family Minit Touring Tent (now called Base Camper). 13 years old and going strong. Centre pole. Floor is rectangular with enough space on one side for the double bed / mattress and all other stuff (including the kid) on the other side. 2 minutes to set up (if I am slow) - 4 pegs and one pole. Easy. In high winds you can add extra pegs and guy ropes.

I am considering side poles to free up the centre but it is not a priority for me. I like the size and internal space and the real canvas. Great tent.

i just got the oztrail tourer 9 plus having used dome style tents previously.
setup is quick, just a couple of extra poles for the extended section.
space inside is good and added the side pole kit so we can fit 2x double airbeds but looking to get the kids the bunkbed style as will free up more room.
just remember to wet them down after purchase to season the seams, hoping mine has worked but only used in the dry so far.
cheapest place was bcf, about $100 cheaper than anywhere else.
    cheers

It would be good to borrow one of each type and try it for weekend. It's not until you really use it that you'll find out if it suits you.

We've used a tourer centre pole for many years. ( Southern Cross ). Bang in four pegs, pop in the pole and you're done. No fly to put over. Great if you need to set up in rain or wind.

We have the internal side poles and a large awning which we will normally deploy if camping for more than a night.

From watching people setting up a Blackwolf turbo tent, they took a bit longer than our centre pole one. ( taking into account unpacking, erecting, fitting the fly over top and adjusting ) But they might have been unused to the tent.

I have used a centrepole tent for over 25 years including 100 consecutive nights.
For the first few years it was 2 adults and two kids then just two adults.

The floor is 2.7 x 2.7 as most are. However it had much steeper walls than the ones in your pics.

The big advantage is that there is a much greater area inside where you can stand up straight. The disadvantage is that the frame around the edge of the roof is removable so it takes about a minute longer to set up. On the other hand, it folds into a more compact shape than the tents with the built in frame.

We found it very convenient to use.
