A few reasons:
1. Our camping style - we like to visit game parks and park off at a campsite for 2-3 days. So when we want to go for a game drive early in the morning (0600) or in the late afternoon (1600), it means taking the tent down and then putting it back up again.
2. Both SWAMBO & I are 1.6m tall - so reaching the zips on the RTT can be a PITA - climbing on the wheels, etc.
3. That midnight loo run is a bit of a mission - you have to get dressed while lying down, climbing down the (sometimes slippery) ladder, then getting back in the tent, at which point the tent is cold again, etc
BUT, if you like to camp for 1 night and then take off the next morning, RTT is probably better.
We are looking at a canvas ground tent made by Tentco, it has a metal frame and measures 1.5x1.5x1.8m - so we can stand upright and plenty of space to put our clothes ammo boxes in the corners.
