Geez Longie $ 500.
Do you have a seller reference or something.
The cheapie ones seem to be the Oasis type.
If I can get 5 or more people to come in on a bulk deal , we can get the ones above for $ 650 but you would have to PM me.
I have no connection with the seller and recieve no commission or anything.
Just some savings

Had ours a couple of years now, it's good. Can be a problem if you need to load it on and off when you are home. some people can lift it off and store it in the garage roof with a pulley system, we have to load it on and off by hand.

Hoges
Take a look at Kowari's photo. That is the one with a partially internal ladder. Not sure that it would fit internally if the skirt was fitted.
You would probaly say more that it was out of the weather at the top when you first came out but if it's persisting
down with rain , I think you'd still get wet at the bottom. I could be wrong and maybe you can make the ladder incline steeper and still be inside?
Kowari , is yours one off ebay from either Arco or Bettadeals online?

No, it's an ARB one,
the ebay ones were not about when we bought it afaik. So a bit pricey realy, but it has been good, we realy got it because the sort of camping we do is more stopping and moving on, than staying put. So with a ground tent we would be packing up nearly every morning bedding included, so it saves time as the bedding etc is packed in it.
We chose that one because we liked the extended overhang that the ladder goes up into, bit more secluded/protected when entering and leaving. The ladder is attached in the same place as all the others i think. you can sort of make the ladder more upright by not useing the extension.
One of the things you need to concider with a RT tent on a Defender is eccess the the cover etc when packing up, I use the side steps and the wheels to stand on to pull the zip round but my wife finds it just a little bit hard to reach. I guess some people carry a small set of folding steps or similar.
We did 2 weeks in the Vic high country last month with it, and it was great. We were with the local Landy club and the others took camper trailers etc and returned to them after each offroad trip, so we had to pack up each morning and open up each night, but no problem (we opened up, then got a lift to Dargo pub though!)
For the recent Jamboree at Blinman we took our old ground tent as we knew we were staying camped in the one spot, and only for a couple of nights.

I should have said that the extended bit that the ladder goes into allows us to zip an annex on and still have access to the back of the landy.
We havnt used it much, but it has been usefull when we have.
we used the annex for: protection from the cold wind, from the rain, and if the flies are realy bad. Its big enough to sleep in. We find that it is something else to pack away if there is no real need for it so only use it when needed.
It would be good though if you knew you werent going to be moving the landy for a few days etc.
