    Air Beds

    Hey Fellow Campers,

Has anyone bought an Air Bed/Mattress that doesn't leak overnight and doesn't give you a sore back?

Which one do you all use?

    Cheers,
    Mike

I hate airbeds for the reasons you gave above.
However we went camping on the weekend and one of the couples there had an airbed that had an inbuilt 240v pump. How cool is that?

We used my 300w inverter to power it.

It did go down a bit over night though.

Nan & I use a "Jackaroo" double airbed. The one on the expanding frame. It goes down very slightly, enough to top it up each day. Very comfy though, but they dont suit everyone.

    Self Inflating-

A couple of mates swear by the self-inflating type, Coleman I reckon they suggested.
Looks as though it is going to be a trial and error thing, as I can live with a hangover but not a bad back ache.

    Cheers fellas,

We've got 3, one is a Coleman with a sealable valve type arrangement, can't remember what the other two are.
It's great. I'm a big unit and it never goes down, and we always get a great nights sleep on it.

We have found Thermarests the best over many years.

I think mine are 20 years old now with no probs except 1 puncture from a sharp object.
They are more expensive but worth it.

SWMBO has an EXPED Downmat 9 and I have a Synmat 9DLX. Very comfortable to sleep on, rolls up to about the size of a large Milo can and does not get cold.
We have had a double self inflating mattress but found it unconfortable, the singles are OK but the do take up a lot of space. Not cheap at about $260.00 each but it is money well spent for a good night's sleep.

We got ours from these blokes who were pretty helpful:
Exped Down Mat 9 PUMP [DOWNMAT9PUMP] - AUD $269.00 : Summit Gear, Online Shopping

Another recommendation for the Exped. I've got a Thermarest also, but the Exped is better. The Thermarest is very slippery and your sleeping bag slides off it easily

My vote goes for the freedom self inflating mattress or similar as the shop has now closed.
So much more comfy, warm, reliable etc.
Yes they don't roll up as small, but they are worth the extra space and I suspect will work out cheaper over the long term.
    cheers

Some of the "slight going down overnight" may not be due to a leak but rather to the air cooling and contracting after a warm day.
