    RRC 93 electrics :(

I have many electrical problems on my newly purchased Rangie 93. MOFO Lucus lol. I'll list them, although I can live without cruise/central locking etc

    1. Drivers electric seat.- nothing happens except mirrors move.
Seat is stuck in far back position.

    2. Electric mirror switch not working

    3. no low beam/high beam. ( It took about 10 secs to come on when I first used it last week on trip from Sydney to Brisi. high beam flasher works

    4. No cruise control

    5. no central locking

    6. Sunroof stays open (apparently).

    7. ABS/ETC light constantly on and brakes surges. feels ok at high speed.

Also, this thing feels like a bus to drive, is this normal? the rear end seems to wobble over some bumps. feels quite strange.

I'm also trying to find a workshop manual for this so I can understand things a bit better, but some info would be appreciated

    cheers

If your playing with RRC electrics you may need this
    Lucas Replacement Smoke Kit

Lucas electrics wont work well if you let any of the the smoke out.

    There are some simple fixes.
Headlights- replace the dipper/indicator switch. Common failure

Seats- first try to clean out the switch by giving it a good dose of WD40. Is the motor going? if so the cable is stuffed .

Cruise control. Usually a vacuum hose split , but could be the cable link to the steering wheel, depending on symptoms.

Wobbles. Needs new shocks? suspension bushes dead? Is it an air suspension or coils? No they do not usually wobble.

ABS light. Have a search of "3 Amigos"

Hi and thanks for some info guys, yeah its air suspension. I find the ride to be a little firmer than what I remember of my dads classic 74. Feels quite amazing though when going over rough rocky terrain. It seems to get some vibration in the steering around the 100k'ph mark and you can feel these bumps through the steering mmmm, I'll get the Landrover shop to see what they think but I'll have a crack at the seat and lights. I found the rave workshop manual online, so that will come in handy.

mmmmm maybe I should have bought an old 2 door, with only smaller amounts of Mr Lucus to worry about $#%^. One good thing about the car is that there are no oil leaks ) and its good on fuel (for a v8) haha

    Hi,

I bought a 1993 LSE about 7 years ago quite cheaply, due mainly due to many of the electrical items not working. Was a while ago so not completely clear on all faults, but it included seats, sunroof, glass, possibly indicators, cruise among other things. Sounds a little familiar doesn't it? Well I had a mate with Access to VACC library that kindly photocopied the electrical section of Rangie workshop manuals, if you know these, each page connects to others as it maps out the wiring. Anyway I started to trace all the dead bits and eventually the all lead back to the battery, so working backwards testing for power, swapping relays, testing with live wires to see if the switched.. I found myself under the radiator expansion tank right behind the battery. Low and behold (whatever that means) I found a fusible link (fancy name for a piece of wire that will pop when over loaded). I temporarily replaced with some heavy gauge wire and Bingo! All is good in the world. Later I bought a small length of the fancy wire and it’s been fine ever since, go figure!

The cruise would fail just about every trip; they typically fail in the rubber hoses, and at the tee piece on the firewall in front of passenger seat. For a couple of years I would trim off the split and be on my cruisy way. But the pipes eventually got too short so 2 years ago I bought some new vacuum tube and replaced the lot, hasn’t given me trouble since.

Then there was the suspension, steered like a mad dog with a gammy leg, a couple of (well all 4 for safety) air bags replaced and faults cleared, new shockers, steering damper, panhard rod bushes and car has been fabulous since. Except for a few things that failed like the fuel pump, radiator core, heater core, and then the 3.9 after a newish hose popped, it has been an absolute joy, and I love it. The 4.6 replacing the 3.9 is a tad better too.

haha, yeah it does sound familiar, and I guess with some patience I'll get through the list.
Also wondering how many km's these autos will go for if maintained. It has 255k on the clock, and a good service history. Nice Rangie Russa

    cheers

    Hi Mild,

My auto has done 245 now and is still good, I have had the oil changed a couple of time in 120k k's, I understand these later ZF's are better then say teh 90 models with stronger internals. If well serviced it should be the least of you worries. For peice of mind, I'd have it serviced once you get it on the road. ANd remember, Google is your friend, lots of help out there, like how to get your seat switches working, how to reset your suspension once you have the cable, and this forum is great.

    best of luck
    Russell.

.....They should steer just fine ...

The wobble .... Check your Swivel ball preload ( Chrome ball on the front diff ) ... You will need the technical tool, "Fish Scales" for that tho
