If it is not too late then I have a MAF sensor from an 87 Rangie that you can have, you just need to come and pick it up from Ringwood.

Just email me at adamwalker@infraredsolutions.com.au if you want it.

My '87 starts & runs with the AFM disconnected. It doesn't like it & runs rough but it will start.

    Talking It's alive!!

Just got a phone call from my mechanic... he's got it running sweetly.
After he put the new MAF sensor on, it made no change.
He then put on an injector test lamp and found no voltage to the injectors.

He said he opened up the computer & cleaned all the dust bunnies out of it. He also redid the relays I'd already cleaned so I dunno.

He did say it drops down at idle when in Drive, but not enough to stall.
(Any ideas what that could be?)

Am gonna have a chat with him tonight once he comes back around, see if I can pump him for information!

Guys, I want to thank you all for the help in getting my baby running.

Raise the base idle setting a bit, use a 3/16 inch allen key in the hole on top of the manifold. The idle speed drop sounds like every one of your era RRC I have met. They don't have computer controlled idle speed.
    Cheers!

Hey bee_utey... thanks again... Which one is the base idle screw? There appears to be one on the MAF and another near the rear of the throttle body (I am assuming that's the right one). Do I unscrew it a bit to raise the idle?

It's in a small raised ring on top of the throttle body area of the inlet manifold. This lets air flow past the throttle plate. Unscrew about 1/2 turn at a time.

Thanks again mate... I left it alone for the time being, it's on an Unregistered Vehicle Permit atm and you can't drive after 7PM on them. I did sit in it happily while it ran thoughand was quite impressed.

I am going to have to wait until next week to get it registered if I can get a roadie in time. (Damn work lol).

Great news Dave. I will have to pop around one evening to check it out.

    Cheers - Gav

    Damn VicRoads!!
I had to call them 4 times to book it in, and they all said my VIN was wrong.
Luckily I finally found the previous reg number on the keyfob and that along with the engine number persuaded her... she said that VIN wasn't in the national database *eeek*

It's going in on the 7th for it's inspection thingy.

Something I noticed and don't know if it's normal is that I found a plate marked "This vehicle was manufactured by JRA Limited". I did some searching, but don't see where they manufactured in Sydney as late as my 87/88

    Cheers,
    Dave
