    G`day Jason ,

all i know or think i know is what i put .

You need to look for , Range Rover Shuler FFRR5000 which i think you`ll find is an Australian specific vehicle .

The FF is Ferguson Formula , which is the transfer .
The RR is Range rover .
The 5000 is the engine size which is i think you`ll find is a holden V8

The idea for this specific vehicle as i understand it was , in the early/mid 1980s it came from an Art Gallery owner in Melbourne named John Hoerner , initially it was for the Melbourne cup sponsor at the time , The Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi .

If you are able to get a copy of WHEELS December 1985 it will have some information although i don`t know what .

Also and i`m not sure why but i think that Ritters in Melbourne would be a source of information .

    Cheers

thanks, I have heard that some had holden engines in them but this one has a rover engine it's a p76 engine ( tall deck engine with the engine number near the bell housing behined the passenger side head and not next to the dipstick, the first part of the number is 4400) and maybe a 5 litre p76 the plate on the car says it's got a 5 litre alloy v8 engine.

    G`day ,

sorry my mistake , the info i gave was for a Phase 2 BA Model or 84/5.

If yours looks like the pic it is an AA Model or 83/4.

    Cheers

The Australian - Range Rover Schuler FFRR 5000

I have collected some available information of the Australian - Range Rover Schuler FFRR 5000,
as well as for the UK versions of Schuler and later Overfinch Range Rovers

These informations I've updated on my Range Rover Classic site:

Australia: Range Rover Australia - Range Rover Classic

UK conversions: Range Rover Conversions - Range Rover Classic

UK Schuler through Land Rover dealers: Range Rover 1980's - Range Rover Classic

Feel to update with more information

    Cheers, Vidar

    Hi Fossicker,
I have been rebuilding a FF 5000 for a few years now and am also frustrated by the lack of technical information available on the transmission package.
There is some information on the Jensen FF sites as they also had the Fergusun Fomula transfer box.
The transfer box runs on ATF fluid but what about the centre diff? Is it viscous coupled?
    Cheers

    Guys,
I know a bit about the FF systems fitted to UK Overfinches - owned one for a short period in the UK.
The Schuler 5000 built in Australia used the transmission package (without afaik the Dunlop Maxaret Anti-lock brake system) used in the Jensen FF.
The Ferguson Formula design utilises a viscous coupling packaged around an epicyclic differential.
This differs from the BW viscous coupling used in the RRC from 89 which "outboard" to the centre diff.
The FF was in a sense one of the first "torque vectoring" systems and set up to give a 37/63 torque split as the default.
The FF VC is quite loose, which is arguably the best set-up for on road performance driving (as opposed to the RRC VC which is stiff ie virtually locked normally) In driving terms this helps eliminate turn-in understeer and indeed in an Overfinch it was quite easy to drift the tail out!
Overfinch also fitted a LSD in the rear axle.

The same basic system was also later developed by FFD & GKN and appeared in a variety of other vehicles including Vauxhall Monzas, AMC Eagles and the Ford Sierra 4x4. With the advent of stability control systems more modern systems usually dispense with the VC in favour of ECU controlled clutch packs such as in the BMW iDrive.

Hope that fills in some gaps.
    Chris

    From memory the Holden V8 offered wasn't just a 5.0Lt V8, but a Brock/HDT V8.
