If you ditch the oil and put cv grease in the swivels you might find the seals dont leak anyway

I was thinking of putting the grease in instead, just a little concerned if grit/sand got in there, would be a bugger to clean/fix. Would the grease dry up over time? mmmm, wonder if others have put in grease with no problems.

Very interesting about the kit with the split seals on the earlier landrovers, I have only a slight weep,( the only oil leak I have on the rangie maybe I could put an additive in like moreys or lucus.

It only takes a few hours to do the job properly, check your swivel hub bearing endfloat/preload they should be preloaded! whilst there, it maybe the cause

maybe that's why I have some slight steering shake between 105-110 km/h. preload etc not correct+ the slight leak. I don't know much about the setup, I'm still learning all about these machines. The electrics + the 3.9 seems to be my biggest disappointment.

Hi Milld, Interestingly a Rangie I bought a few Rangies ago someone had stapled the swivel seal together in attempt to try and make a good enough seal, didn't work either!!! I agree with others below, for the amount of work involved doing the job properly doesn't actually cost that much more or take that much longer.
I used a synthetic liquid grease last time this seemed to work quite well, didn't leak and the grease actually coated the swivel ball, didn't pick up enough to actually contaminate the grease inside the swivel. If you wanted to change the grease do it in the summer when there is a bit more heat around to allow the grease to run out that bit quicker. Never be as quick as oil but doesn't take to long.

We have been running cv grease in the swivels for years on our comp rangy.
But as has been said it is still worth doing the job right and checking the swivel bearing pre load as this can make a huge difference to the handling.
We have also used neat moreys in the past which works well.

Cut slots in the brakeline brackets (from the side edge to the holes, same width as bolt dia) while they're free so you don't have to completely remove the bolts next time.

These brackets have to come off to replace discs, etc, etc.

What I was trying to say here is that by doing this mod when you can then in the future you will not lose all the oil in the swivel ball when you change discs, etc.

If you have to remove both bolts that hold the bracket (and the top swivel pin) completely that's what happens.
