Took a bas to the centre box which has loosened the baffles making it rattle like hell when cold.
I'm planning to replace the whole system with a hi-flow and headers soonish, probably after crimbo.
In the meantime, what are the implications of whipping the box off and putting in some plain exhaust pipe?

Lol. Already running that risk. It sounds like I have a V8 powered tumble dryer with a load of spanners in it and a megaphone attached right now when I start it up!

OK, looks like the visa card will be getting hammered as it has now let go and has a hole in it the size of my fist.
Sounds bloody good at idle mind.

before you go out and pay loads of $$$ for a whole new system I would suggest re-thinking the headers/extractors, made little to no difference to mine but mines a bit older than yours, next time i doubt i'd bother.
Also don't bother with the middle box. Straight through from the headers will do fine with an end box/muffler. Sounds good but not too loud and cheaper too![]()
Cheers Steve. I've been told by someone who dyno tested a few brands of header that the H&M ones were the only ones that actually returned more power/torque. Which have you got?

headers are 4into1, (i think ?) Genie III, it says three but I cant be sure if its a 3 like III or its just their logo.
Anyhow.... I got them really cheap used but almost new, If I had paid full price for them I would have been pretty upset.
They might make a bit of difference on a dyno but for driving if anything its negligable, I couldn't really tell any difference.
I got the rest of the exhaust done at the same time all straight through except for a small muffler at the end and got the end to exit the rear and up close to the chassis rather than out to one side as is normal on a RRC.
If an exhaust place could say, buy these headers and we guarantee X amount of extra torque or HP then I might.
Really though me putting headers on my tired old 3.5 and expecting an noticable increase probably equates to flapping my arms to make it go faster![]()
So broken exhaust is now cured thanks to Steve at Lifestyle 4WD. Thanks Steve.
H&M headers and a hi flow 2.5in pipe. Sounds nice, quieter than it has been in a couple of weeks but I can feel the difference in how it pulls. Particularly in the mid range.
The H&M's hang down a bit lower than the OEM's so I'll have to watch that.
Happy with the outcome though.
