    Unhappy Jammed sunroof

    Hiyas everyone,

My 87 has a tilt/slide sunroof fitted from new by a company called Prestige Sunroofs in Melbourne.

They seem to think it's the motor, and want $490 for a new one!!

I need to know whereabouts the motor is (they said 12"-18" behind where the glass goes) so I can get a company to rewind it. Am sure I get can get it rewound for far less than Prestige want.

I guess I'm going to have to pull the rooflining to find it. *sigh*

The switch works, and it's getting power on the red wire... it died on me once before, then fired back into life about 2 days later.

Has anyone else had experience with this? I don't want a wet ass in the morning haha

Try pulling out the switches and giving the contact points a clean up with some Circuit board cleaner .... Or just shake then in some metho for a second

    Cheers

Thanks Mike, I tried that the 1st time it failed but nothing changed, it turned out to be the in-line fuse holder. This time I ran a temporary wire direct to the switch and it appears to be working OK, am getting power to the outputs.

Wouldn't hurt to try it again though.

    Never rains but it pours

Well, I decided to take down some of the headlining to see if I could find the motor.
I did find it eventually - after destroying most of the headling

I can't work out how on Earth it comes out, so since I have destroyed the headliner I might as well just rip off what's left and see if I can find a way to get the bugger of a motor off.

Luckily there is someone local that specialises in redoing headliner, seen his stuff before and it looked great so at least I have somewhere to go when I'm finished.

If you come around on the weekend, I can have a look at how it comes out. With the head lining out the way, I may be able to diagnose it further.

    Cheers - Gav.

Cheers Gav, but I've got it working now. Bloody thing loves to torment me.

It was the weirdest thing... the power cable running to the switch was new, and the switch was working (I checked it for resistance too), but the power wasn't getting to the sunroof motor.

So I got ****ed at it, ripped the headlining down & found the motor. Pulled it out, gave it some juice & she span perfectly, both ways, even when given some resistance.

I then hooked the sunroof wires to a bulb, pressed it & was rewarded by a very loud clonk coming from the front left, lol sounded like a huge relay.

Fitted the sunroof back up & she works for now, but I don't think I'm gonna trust it

The headlining looks like Frankensteins' Monster though. Before I take it in to get it redone, that sunroof motor is going to be reconditioned!

    Cheers,

    Dave
